I'm suddenly having problems posting with Agent. I can download
headers and bodies, courtesy of charter.net, but my posts aren't going out. One managed to escape this morning, but the rest are sitting in the Outbox, getting cold and lonely. Charter is blaming my newsreader. I don't think the problem lies with Agent, myself. Does anyone know of a free news service (we're flat broke) that I can use with Agent? Also, would someone be willing to repost this so the google-blockers will see my request for help? Thanks so much! Carol |

Blonde moment here. It never occured to me to ask Crash if his Ultrafeed account could be used on my computer. So now I'm downloading through Ultrafeed, but still can't post. I'm wondering if this is a sign from God. Carol |

Bummer! I had a similar problem, but it was because I had not properly tweaked Agent 5.0/1170 and my messages were not showing up in the Sent folder. Seems to be working now. (XX) NEWS: I subscribe both to Verizon and Earthlink(Giganews). Verizon no longer has *any* alt.* newsgroups. Zip. Zero! Nada. Nyetski! Nichts! They are gone! Weg! Seems NY AG was interested in blocking some 88 alt.* groups which were (at least potentially) subject to posting and downloading of questionable binaries. Verizon untied the Gordian know as Alexander did.... He destroyed it. The have now dropped all alt.* groups regardless of content. Sorry, you guys, alt.food.recipes alt.food.cajun alt.food.mexican cooking alt.food.* alt.binaries.food.* are all listed in my newsclient. Lucky for me, all are still on Giganews. Es tut mir leid, Mensch. Alex |

The rollover of unused GB each month ensures I'll never go over quota. $2.95/mo isn't free, but it's pretty close and I don't believe there are any free options if you want binary groups as well i.e. alt.binaries.food. I think there are other servers where you can buy a block of GB up front. |

Unless you're into downloading pirated HD movies and such it's not an issue, a binary group like A.B.F. uses very little of your quota. |

It lacks some features that the full-bore version has, but features don't fade out like some other app trial versions do. Forte's been really good about that. That being said, I botched the setup on my trial APN and they haven't responded to my enquiries. So far, I'm chalking it up to the holiday season. So far.... Alex |

You pay by the gigabyte of bandwidth, and use a block until it's gone. For instance, usenet-news.net charges $3 for five gigs. A few gig will last a long time unless you're downloading TV shows from multimedia groups or something. If all you're doing is getting images from alt.food.binary or the like, a five-gig block would last all year and then some.
