Default Happy 1st Day of Winter!

Happy 1st Day of Winter!

To those of us in the northern hemisphere.

Having a nice freezing rainstorm at the moment. 25 F.

Break out the split pea soup?

Best,

The snow has stopped for now, but strong winds continue. It's -11F
with a windchill of -37F. I just went out to move my car so the plows
can clear where it was during their second pass. Surprisingly, it
wasn't too bad out there. That, or I was wearing enough layers.

Best idea you've had today!

Carol, who drank the WRONG energy drinks yesterday and is still up,
clenching her teeth, at almost 6am

They banned energy drinks like Red Bull, Monster and Donkey Kick at our
local elementary and middle schools, and not a moment too soon, in my
opinion. Imagine trying to teach math to a 5th grader who packed a Red
Bull with his sack lunch, imagining also, that the use of duct tape in
classrooms has been specifically banned.

It's friggen cold here. 5 degrees, with 30 mph wind. No flyball
practice today, that's for damned sure. My son is sick and I'm thinking
I might have caught it, too. I've got one of those migratory
half-stuffy nose things going on, like when you're laying down you can
breath through one nostril but not the other, but if you roll onto your
other side the stuffiness clears from the uphill side but pretty soon
the nostril on the down side is stopped up.

I'm having Nyquil and garlic bread for breakfast and then I'm going back
to bed.

This stuff is called RockStar, and we got it at the Dollar Tree.
Cheap, but POTENT! I swear, I'm gonna break some teeth before this is

It actually has less caffeine than coffee. The regular stuff has 80mg
per 8 oz serving versus 95mg for coffee. So, the big can is like 2
large cups of coffee. Of course, there's the sugar, 93g for the big
can. Since a carb portion for a diabetic is 15g, you need to skip at
least one meal.

Hope you feel better soon...

I use Benadryl for colds (along with Ibuprofen) and that helps to keep
my sinuses clear so I can sleep.

Supposed to be pushing 70F here, today, but next summer when its 107F here
I'll get my payback.

Kathleen, I hope you start feeling better, soon. My cold is getting
much better. Between the cold and going away for our anniversary
(December 11th), I am so far behind. This is our 2nd anniversary, so I
have missed one week before Christmas for the past 3 years. I have
decided, that I will start getting ready for the holidays around Labor
Day. When the neighbors see us putting up lights on the roof around
Halloween, they might start talking about us. <g>

You poor kid. If I was your next door neighbor, I'd make you some
chicken soup with plenty of garlic. And I'd read RFC to you so you
could stay in bed. Have you tried using several pillows so your nose
doesn't back up?

What did you use and at what time? You have me curious. :-)
I use Red Bull for long distance driving.

Rockstar ... the Mango, Orange, and Passionfruit variety. Just sipped
on it during the late afternoon and throughout the evening. Two
cans. This stuff would keep you going from California to Maine.

More info ... sorry, I'm wired. The cans are 24 ounces. They boast,
"triple strength, triple size." And your urine will be brilliant,
sunshine yellow. I've never seen anything like it.

Okay, I'm done now.

That just means it's high in B-vitamins. Not a bad thing.
Vitamin B-2 is responsible for the "enhanced" urine color as a general
rule.

I don't touch caffeine starting 12 hours before I want to go to

You drank 2... No wonder.

I'll have to remember that brand. Red Bull only ever lasted me about 6
hours, but I only drank ONE. ;-D

For a routine energy boost, I just use Green Tea Extract capsules.
One "Now" brand 400 mg. capsule helps me wake up nicely for my commute
to work, and it's gentle.

I don't drink coffee.

I could drink the green tea, if I could stand the taste. I don't care
for it.

I've never had ANY reaction to an energy drink before, so I just
thought of it as another beverage. I rarely drink coffee or
caffeinated sodas, so I'm not used to any kind of a boost. Took two
benadryl and finally fell asleep. Just got up. I'll definitely
remember this stuff for when I will be on the road. I couldn't close
my eyes to save my life. LOL!

I drank a Red Bull once (didn't like the taste well enough to do it
again) to see what all the advertising was about. It didn't do a
thing to me. I guess I drink too much caffeinated coffee to get a
caffeine buzz from Red Bull.

Could be.

I gave up coffee 16 years ago on the advice of a gastro' MD.

He was right about how it was contributing to GI distress.
I had a headache for two weeks from the caffeine withdrawl. <g>
I used to drink a good 1/2 pot per day plus.

He said not to even drink decaf', that it was not the caffeine. Said it
was the oils and acids in coffee.

And the pesticides.

The nations that grow that stuff don't have the pesticide regulation
that we have here.

Now I use green tea capsules, but only because I cannot stand the taste
of green tea.

Damsel,

Stick around kiddo--the day is young! I could fizzle out by 9 a.m.!

Gotta wait until 4:15pm for my Philadelphia Eagles possible last stand.

Your Vikings vs. Falcons will be a more interesting game. Here's a swell
idea... I'll take the Falcons + 3-1/2. Say... for uhm... a bunch of carrots?
Naturally, I'll secretly root for the Vikings.

Best,

From those of us in the southern hemisphere...

It's 85.4 deg F here at the moment (9.30pm)

Just had a spatchcock chicken (a.k.a. a 'flattie') on the grill (braai).
Ag, shame.
