Christopher,

Hmmm... Interesting name!

In the town of Sparky? On Sparky Street? Next to a power plant? Owner's
nickname?

Explain!

We have Pockets and Speedway down here (west KY). Wish we had Sheetz.
Coffee is as good as Speedway, much more variety on the fast food,
very reasonably priced. When we travel to PA we usually stop at a
Sheetz for lunch or even dinner.

You need a reason for "Sparky-Mart"? If I had anything to sell, that
would be one of my top choices.

In my area, Wawa is a gas stop, but most of my visits there are for the
convenience store. I like both Wawa and 7/11.

Stan,

In my 17 years of residency in PA, I didn't think 7/11 existed. I imagined
there was a "stay outta town" conspiracy for them. The only one I've ever
seen was on City Line Ave., somewhere, back in October, this year!

About WaWa, my only protest about them is they went "in house" with the
soft pretzel racket. Instead of the great daily fresh soft pretzels in the
big square crates to pluck from, they went to a miniaturized soft pretzel
in a "baggie," Sock probably better describes it. The BUMS!!!

Best,

Andy

I moved from Philly a long time ago, but I know the locations of a half
dozen in the northeast section. Welsh Road, Bustleton Ave, Byberry Road.
Could they have closed some?

Ed,

I don't know my way around that part of "town" at all. I shudder to think of
the state-of-the-art of 7/11 soft pretzels!!!

Convenience. The Cumby's is within walking distance. The big
grocerys are a mile or more.

It's a place to stop to pick up the newspaper, some gum, the second
cup of coffee in the morning. some folks stop there for a sandwich
when they've forgotten their lunch or whathaveyou. Snacks and sodas.
Last night it was a bottle of rubber cement to finish decorating the
boxes we packed the cookies in.

It's fewer steps to their dairy case to pick up a container of milk,
since they are not as enormous as the groceries. Also fewer chances
to find any impulse purchases. The cost of jumping in the car and
driving to the grocery for items like that would outweigh the savings
on price.

I don't use them that often, since I pass any number of stores on my
way home from work so it's no trouble to stop and pick up the half
dozen items on the shopping list that my family "can't do without."

In the inner-city and poorer neighborhoods, they do become the store
of choice, since if you don't have a car, they are what's available.

Providence used to be like that, now I've got three of them in a 1.5
mile radius.
