Default If you could have...

.... an item for your kitchen that you have been wanting for ages, but
still don't have (assuming money was no object) what would it be? i.e.
anything from pots/pans, utensils, ranges, ovens and other appliances
(both big and small) etc.

If there is more than one thing that you have been 'lusting after' for
ever, give us a list ;-)

I know what I would buy... a dishwasher.

I am also considering a rice cooker, after hearing many good things
about them here...

I have lust in my heart for a Kitchenaide stand mixer. I've
wanted one forever. I just really don't have a place to put
it.

And I don't bake.

I just want one. To have!

How is that different from a sportscar which is a lot more expensive? Get
one. My kid wants one but in a color they rarely make... has never been
available for Christmas yet.

I really would like a self-cleaning oven. They were introduced a few years
after I got here and are still rare and costly here.

Find someone who paints cars for a living and get it in the color the
kid wants. Alton Brown and Guy whatshisface both have custom painted
KitchenAid mixers.

I do have a cabinet that would be perfect to retrofit with
one of those pop-up surfaces to hold the mixer. It wouldn't
displace much.

It just seems a stretch to go through all that for a mixer
I won't use much. If I did bake often, it would be a no-brainer.

OT: Anyone know where that comes from, I'm thinking
a Bugs Bunny cartoon. t'HAVE!

Oh, talk about something I hardly ever use, yet I would not
be without if I could help it. It's on the non-negotiable list
of features whenever I look for a new range.

On one move my husband was picking out the house since it was a long
distance military mover. He called and asked me if I wanted a self
cleaning oven. I was about 8 months pregnant and had just spent 2
days cleaning the oven. I think I said something like I would kill
him if it wasn't. I have had one everywhere I have lived since.

OH, thanks for that. What a blast from the past. Hilarious.

Indulge yourself. The mixer/baking is one of those chicken/egg deals
- if you had a nice stand mixer that you've always wanted, you would
bake more. As in bread, maybe - the dough hook is a wonderful thing.

I know how your kid feels! I have a certain shade of gray that I
covet, but it's never offered on the current model I'm buying.... it's
always "last year" - with a model in the show room to prove it.

I've always wanted a walk-in fridge/freezer. And one day (if I win the
lottery) maybe I'll get a spare room converted. I live alone and this is
totally inpractible for me...but I just want one.

Wow! I'd be happy with a freezer. Sometimes it's a
little tough with just the side by side. Although, I take it as
a sign to stop buying food.

Of course, a big part of my freezer is dedicated to my ice
cubes.

I wish the DH would see a full freezer as a sign that we don't need
anything. The thing will be packed (plus my ice too!) and he will bring
home pounds and pounds of meat. Drives me crazy but he somehow fits it
all in.

Well, if we're on the impracticals, then I was a Hobart 140qt mixer and
a Hobart double convection oven. I'd use them once a year to make a mega
batch of my famous chocolate chip cookies. Very practical...

Im glad to see Im not the ONLY one who wants something virtually useless
to me!
I saw an info-mercial the other day about the "MULTI-MASTER". a tool
that saws, scrapes, sands....You can even saw the bottom off a door
without taking the door off the hinges!!!!! You can cut drywall, trim or
two by fours!

For a MERE 200 bucks I can GET one!

The fact that I have nothing to cut, sand or scrape is IRRELEVANT!!! I
WANT IT!

I mean...IF I had it, maybe I WOULD find something to use it for!

F'rinstance...I have a "mud room" off my garage that has cheap stick-on
tiles....and Id LIKE to put in a nice hardwood OR Pergo floor...and IF I
had a Multi-Master....why, I could CUT those floor boards, zip zap,
just like the TV guy......install them in MINUTES (yeah, right) and just
slice off the bottom half inch of the door to make room for the floor
under it.....

and for JUST the price of the Pergo! well, plus the 200 bucks for the
Multi-Master....

Really...I dont know if I can survive another day without one.

Harbor Freight has a MultiMaster knock off for $50 and it's received

Thanks for the giggle. LOL

Right now I have everything I need. At least I thought I did, until I
saw Goomba's fancy, schmancy new kitchen. Now I want to remodel. lol

Two years ago I bought a Wolfgang Puck stand mixer at Bed, Bath, and
Beyond. Does everything the KitchenAid does and more at about half the
price. Have not had problem one with it as yet. All chrome and stainless
with black accents.

I saw the picture you posted, very nice!

On reading the other's wish list, I thought my wish
really was for a butler's pantry off the kitchen. If I
had one there would be no stand mixer on the wish
list because I'd have one.

Got my Puck mixer for $134.00 with a 20% off coupon and on sale. It
resides in a deep cabinet beneath the electric outlet and I can just
pick it up and place it on the counter top. There is a plastic container
sitting behind it that holds the accessories that aren't used on a
routine basis.

When I retired in 2007 I decided to rearrange the kitchen and pantry to
suit me and not DW. Particularly appropriate since I do 95% of the
cooking, shopping, and cleaning. Having been a "space man" in my
misspent career in the oil patch I tried to do it ergonomically and for
convenience. Space man being the management person in charge of space
usage in buildings. Not a job for the weak, if you've never seen a bunch
of ****ed off engineers you haven't lived, just mess with their offices. <G>

Says W.P. Appliances, Inc. but the manuals were printed in China so I
suspect the machine was made there too. Puck's website is:

I seldom use the dough hook Michael but wife used it at Thanksgiving to
mix the dough for her pie crusts. Worked just fine. Has the dough hook,
the mixing deal, and a large whisk, two stainless steel bowls, one
large, one medium, and the cover to avoid blowing flour all over the
kitchen plus some other accessories. I'll try to find a URL for it and
post it.

I was having dinner with my boss and his wife and she said to me, "How

many potatoes would you like Peter?". I said "Ooh, I'll just have one

please". She said "It's OK, you don't have to be polite" "Alright" I

said "I'll just have one then, you stupid cow".

I'll second that lust. Make mine black, please!
My old Oster Kitchen Center has all the attachments (blender, food
processor, mixer, dough beater, yada yada yada) and it functions. During
one move overseas where it sat in storage for 3 years it must have been
hot in the warehouse which didn't improve the transmission band. It
slips now and squeals something fierce! I've put up with it because it
still works.

Hmmm...good question. I guess because it still works. I just have to
stand by when using it because all of a sudden, on its own, it will
whirrrr way up in speed, or conversely go low. I have this image of a
rubber band type transmission which slips and sends it into topsy turvey
speed. The Oster kitchen center is 20 or more years old, and while it
functions, I'm sort of jazzed for a newer machine. I tried to foist this
off on a kid but he wasn't interested.

It was a good machine. We had one but one it broke, no more parts as they
stopped making them years ago.

Gawd! I miss my old Oster Kitchen Center with all the attachments. Got
it for a Christmas gift in 1981 and finally had to give it away to
charity after the main gear (plastic of course) stripped and there were
no replacement parts available. Even tried to machine my own plastic
gear but never got it right as I had to do it by hand. when they quit
they quit for good, enjoy it while you can.

Just say the word and this one is yours! That would give me the excuse
to get the Kitchenaid stand mixer. I have a Cuisinart food processor,
so don't need anything off the kitchen center except a blender, which I
can buy separately.

Thanks, but I replaced mine with the Puck stand mixer and have no more
room for gadgets. A very gracious offer though.

I don't bake either-but hey, it was a gift (Linens-n-things is going out of
business-Kitchen Aid and Henckels, etc knives are even on sale).
I use it to grind meat, cheese, make pasta, etc.

Lin told me that investigators went into Linens-N-Things, peeled back some
of the "sale" stickers and found that the items had been marked *UP*.

Easy. An icemaker in my freezer.
It's not a matter of money - we rent right now and we are currently
looking to buy sometime next summer.
If what we buy does not have a fridge with an icemaker, I am buying one.

Most modern refrigerators can be retrofitted with an icemaker. Did that
to the one before the one we're using now. Turns out most of them, no
matter the brand, take the same icemaker. This does not include the
through the door dispenser types.

Yeah, my current freezer has the capability but it's not mine to mess
with. Plus - don't you need access to a water line? My fridge isn't near
a water line and it can't be moved.

My waterline runs through the bottom of the cabinets the twelve feet
necessary to reach the fridge. Either copper tubing or one of the newer
non-reactive plastic lines (what I'm using) will do the trick. I had
retrofitted for the old fridge and then the compressor went kerplunk and
had to buy a new fridge.

I never thought about extending the line through the floor. I am
(hopefully) moving next summer and I will do whatever it takes to get an
icemaker! ;-)

Ice makers are a MUST, IMO. I can manage to open the door to get the ice
out. I didn't need nor want one that feeds through the door, especially
after reading Consumer Reports say that a majority of problems arise
there. The ones in the door steal so much room from storage space too.
