Default Tired of grilled anything!

I know...it is 91 today...but everyone in this house is getting sick
of grilled whatever.

Today,............Good Old Fashioned POT ROAST for supper. The
whole nine yards....potatoes, celery, carrots, onions! And it smells
so good. And a little fresh dill and parsley for the finish.

Best to all and hope your supper is marvelous!

I'm thinking of making tacos (Mom's old-fashioned recipe).

I know the feeling! Been grillin' & smokin' for months!

Got a pot roast in the oven right now (Emeril's recipe with beer), gonna
serve it with cheesy polenta.

Didn't think of the dill finish, but will now!

Thanks!

I hear ya. I risked using the oven yesterday and made chicken
parm (Tyler Florence's most excellent Ultimate recipe). It was
nice to make a pan of food for a change.

Don''t forget, leftover pot roast makes good burritos.

SWMBO's making cioppino (squid, shrimp, clams, cod -- no
mussels since I'm the only one that likes them) and a fresh
loaf of sour dough...

3 TBS. olive oil
1 large onion, chopped
2 bell peppers (red and green), chopped
3 cloves garlic, minced
1 can stewed and seasoned tomatoes
1 cup red wine, Zin or Burgundy
3 cups V8
Herb Pouch (bay leaf, parsley, and basil)
Salt and pepper to taste
Parsley, chopped

Sauté onions and peppers in olive oil; add in garlic and stewed
tomatoes. Reduce juice and finish adding Herb Pouch, V8, and
red wine. Cook seafood together and serve hot. (For a kick, add
some fresh Serrano pepper or pepper flakes.)

Since I am still basically "kitchen-less" we've been eating out a lot
(gets tiresome) and worse yet, what I've been eating at home has been
off paper plates. What a HORRIBLE way to eat. Ugh. Just depressing! I
don't know why anyone would voluntarily use them for anything other than
the occasional picnic?
Tonight I cooked in a large electric skillet and made a curried meatball
and rice dish, with a big huge salad using my own grown Roma tomatoes.
Some big bowls to wash with the skillet though. My husband has been
using the bathtub upstairs to wash dishes in. I take 'em out to the deck
and use an open cooler as a "sink" and heat water in the microwave
(along with the cold water hose) to wash out there. Refrigerator gets
delivered tomorrow! Electricians also come tomorrow and finish the under
cabinet lighting, hang the pendant light and microwave hood. I wish the
counters/sink would hurry up so I'd have water in here too! The new
range and dishwasher sit in the garage waiting to go in also. I'm
getting impatient.

No laugh. He's been retired a year now, he doesn't show any
sign of slowing down with the making dinner thing. That's okay,
fall's coming, I'll be demanding my kitchen time.

I was just now wondering how your kitchen was going.

Even for tailgating, I use the plasticy type, not paper. Blech.
Paper is almost as bad as those wooden ice cream spoon ... things.
Sets my teeth on edge.

Man, I have a zillion of them.

It'll come together all of a sudden and you will be very happy.

I know just how you feel! We were shopping today and my husband noticed the
trend: I was veto-ing anything that would be cooked on the grill! lol We
ended up getting something that will be done on the grill, just not tonight.
Tonight will be a quick chicken stir-fry with snap peas, green beans,
asparagus, and water chestnuts. I can't wait!

I'm loving the floor more every day! It certainly can hide a multitude
of sins

We had the kitchen cleaned up from the bulk of construction schmutz and
the guy is in there now making more. Waaaaaaaaaaaaaaa.
They hung the microwave this AM and it has a small ding in the door
I'm wondering if Sears can just send a repairman out to replace the door
alone? What a bother!

Please don't call me a pooper, but I have heard that grilling should
be done in moderation as the cooking process is carcinogenic in large
doses.

My daughter grills every night and I've told her this. (Mom the Poop)
She said she uses organic mesquite but I don't think that will help
the bad chemistry.

I'm with your daughter. We're all going to die someday. Might as
well be happy in the mean time.

Trader Joe's, I think. It must be, because she works there and
everything she buys is from Trader Joe's.
