Default Candy Corn

I bought a bag of candy corn, yesterday. I haven't had any of that in
years.

It's a fun treat. But can anyone identify the flavor, other than "sweet"?
*Is* there any other flavor? I can't pick up on one.

Nostalgia: When I was growing up in the Midwest, every summer we were
visited by The Old Corn Lady. She was very old, very thin, and somewhat
bent by age. She and her husband had a farm somewhere near our small
town. When the sweet corn was ready, she would load up her Ford Model T
pickup and haul some into town, and go door to door selling it out of a
big bag. Back door to back door, at least in our neighborhood of
1910-or-so houses next to one of the breakfast cereal factories that
put Battle Creek, Michigan, on the map. She always wore an apron, and
always had candy corn in a pocket or two to give us kids. [Blinky hat-tip
to Mrs. Alwart and the never-seen Mr. Alwart, up in heaven]

That's a nice story. We didn't have corn, just Mr. Gough who would
bring us his catch of bluefish. Heh.

What a charming story. Yes, candy corn only tastes sweet to me, with maybe
just a hint of a buttery taste (artifical, I'm sure).

Yes, I didn't think of that. A bit waxy. Now they have candy corn scented
candles.

Vanilla, cream, mellocreme (a name for a candy made with corn syrup and
sugar that tastes kind of like marhmallows).

I buy candy as part of my job and have read a lot about it!

Yes, it's a very old law. During Colonial times people were burned at the
stake for possession or eating of Candy Corn during other times of the
year.

To me it tastes like Lyle's Golden Syrup with a hint of vanilla.

Are you referring to the caramel flavour? You get that from cooking the sugar.
It gets dark and develops a rich flavour.

Then the rebels dressed up like scarecrows and threw crates of candy corn
into Boston Harbor, and eventually things got better.

They were right next to the candy corn. I wasn't the slightest bit
