After some "soul searching" I finally decided to filter both Google Groups
and Gmail Accounts. With the volume of spam and generally unwanted posts in rfc and other newsgroups, it has become just too unwieldly to ignore or bypass posts from either. I apologize to those posters to rfc who legimately post using Gmail. I had been posting listing a Gmail account, but several folks here asked that I change it to something else so that they would miss my posts. I did so a while back. Probably not a bad idea for others. -- Wayne Boatwright ------------------------------------------- Monday, 03(III)/24(XXIV)/08(MMVIII) ------------------------------------------- Today is: Easter Monday (Canada) Countdown till Memorial Day 8wks 6dys 5hrs 55mins ------------------------------------------- A closed mind gathers no intelligence ------------------------------------------- |

I killfile spam posts by email address, individually. It is as satisfying as weeding the garden can be. Anyone too pussified to do this needs to have a much more limited discussion arena than Usenet. |

Naw ....too late. I just KF'd google and 200 spams in 2 newsgroups (rfc, included) just vanished. That's good enough for me. If someone can't spring $5 for a decent service, they should pack it in. I know that's a bit harsh, but I've had enough. I'm not going to keep changing my scorefill to keep up with spammers. I've heard 99% of all spam originates from half a dozen points. If google, with all there power and know how can't deal with it, I can. Bye-bye, google! ![]() nb |

I've stopped reading/posting to rfc because of the spam and ofttimes ugly postings. One day it might return to on topic and polite discussions about food and cooking......not holding my breath. Kind regards though to you and the other ' goodguys'. (I'm busy quilting, travelling and appreciating life, friends and cats!) Bronwyn Oz |

I've thought of you often and wondered what you've been up to. It's a shame that some of the "goings on" in rfc have caused some of the good and long time posters to leave the group, but I do understand. It seems to be somewhat cyclical, though, so you might pop back in again from time to time to check on the "temperature" around here. Probably not a bad idea for others. And absolutely certainly impossible for some others. I used Google Groups for months because my ISP does not offer email addresses/accounts nor news. Until I could get U of Berlin to accept a payment mode I had no choice. I agree that the spam is irritating, but what I think is that if you are going to put everyone using those various addresses and services on ignore you should just do it and not announce it. Announcing it does nothing but increase the frustration for those helpless to change. And frankly the advice each of you tacks on the end of the announcement is a bit clueless and superior sounding. |

Google was 150% better than that. > > You gotta be kidding me, Judith! <soapbox> IMNSHO, there is only *one* reason that one *has* to use Google Groups to read or post to Usenet groups, and that is when one is away from work/home on business/ vacation without one's own computer and one has to use a 'public' computer (or a friend's that doesn't have Usenet access and newsreader software installed). <shaddup Sheldon> There are many 'reliable' free news servers out there (e.g. news.motzarella.org, aioe.org - to name two) that allow reading and posting to Usenet groups. Same goes for free newsreaders (AFAIAA, all windoze users have the option to install OE - which is better than Google Groups any day, IMHO <shaddup -sw> - and Thunderbird - although far from perfect <shaddup Blinky> - is available free to download on either the windoze or linux platforms. And if one doesn't trust the 'free' news servers - there are plenty of them out there that charge peanuts (that's the OBFood Part 1) for reading/posting to Usenet Groups. FWIW, the only time I use Google Groups is to search for something from a text only newsgroup that was posted in 19-dot, as (for me) it's a convenient Usenet 'archive'. But... ever since Google 'upgraded' their Groups user interface it has become a nightmare to use (for me). I think it absolutely sucks, if you want my opinion - which I am sure you don't ![]() As for the gmail return addresses: even Thunderbird allows you to 'fudge' (that's the OBFood Part 2) one's email address that appears in one's posts... </soapbox> OK. I'll shut up now (for a few minutes...) -- Cheers Chatty Cathy Monday is a lousy way to spend one seventh of your life. |

They're merely announcing frustration over their own impotence... it's obvious that what they really want (and are helpless to achieve) is the ability to prevent those of us who are superior from reading and commenting on their inferior and useless posts... it's always the killfile announcers who have nothing worthwhile to contribute. Unfortunately they think it's beneficial to publicly announce at every opportunity about their inferior medical condition, their shack-up's inferior medical condition, and that they're ***. Why would any normal person in a cooking group give a rat's b-hind about faggoted- fairyness... wait a second, I didn't mean any maleficences/ femaleficences towards rodent's rectums.
