Default OK. I *finally* saw a Rachael Ray show...

.... on one of our local TV channels. Of course, the show was 4 months
old, but I'll say this:

1. Her cooking was, well, not impressive (chicken stock out of a carton,
FFS!), but I fancied some of the cookware she had on the show...
2. The woman never stops talking (and coming from me, that's quite
something)
3. I can understand why a lot of the guys 'tune in' to her show(s) -
IMHO she gives Nigella some competition

On #3....not *this* guy. I used to watch Rachael Ray but after a
while that over-perkiness got to me like fingernails on a blackboard.
Now, if I see her, even on a commercial, I flip the channel. To
something else. *Anything* else.

I will however admit to watching Giada DeLaurentis ("Everyday
Italian") occasionally even if I'm not interested in the food she's
cooking.... :-)

She's a tad... bubbly And the portions! My god, was that a single plate
or a serving platter?!

She did a salad sort of thing the other day with prawns the size of small
lobster tails. After dishing up two plates piled high with the greens and
each with four huge prawns she said it was the first course, she'd be right
back to show how to prepare the rest of the meal. Who eats like that?!!

<snork> Comparing 'The Joker' to Nigella is like comparing fly vomit to a
chocolate truffle.

Hey, she actually said "extra virgin olive oil" the other day. Could have

She seems to say it once every show, usually the first time she uses
"EVOO."

I like her *30 Minute Meals* show, because they often include a useful
tip or two. But I get annoyed by some of her catch-phrases, like
calling sandwiches "sammies" and adding "action going on" to most
anything (e.g., "We have some salt and pepper action going on.").
Still, I don't think she's putting all this on (as I do with, say,
Paula Deen); I think she's probably really like that.

I agree, Leo. She seems like the real deal. She's a bit too bubbly
for the curmudgeons among us, but real all the same.

I don't think he meant it as a compliment. Heh.

I read Paula Deen's autobiography a few weeks ago and got an
entirely new outlook on her. I still am squicked by her
accent, but
I do appreciate her and what she has achieved now.

I found that true after I watched a Sandra Lee biography on FoodTV one
night. She really came up hard and initially her little "tricks" (which
I think she exhausted quite a few episodes ago) allowed her to expand
her culinary offerings without having the means to buy each ingredient
individually and start from scratch.

I took skeeve how cornpone thick Paula lays the accent on nowadays.

Paula Deen's name and greasy mug is now appearing on a bunch of
Smithfield products (Smithfield is a huge umbrella company), and the
prices on these once affordable products has now gone through he
roof.

I used to have respect for Smithfield, but not when they pull this
co-branding crap with a FoodTV personality and jack up the prices of
their products.

http://www.smithfield.com/ (is that greasy mug or what?)

Her accent is phony baloney (balogna?) hillbilly. They simply don't say
"j'awllll" ever 3 words in the South. And my hair stylist who grew up
friends with Dolly Parton says so. She is another one I cannot endure to
watch.

Nor can I. If she wasn't the daughter of a former member of our government

I disagree. Have you ever noticed a Cosmopolitan magazine or Glamour
Magazine? They always have sexy women on the covers and inside. Women
like to see sexy women too- perhaps we like to or want to identify with
them and they make us feel sexier too?

That doesn't bother me - the majority of TV cooks talk nonstop, so
she's just one of many. It's the constant giggling that gets to me.

I'm bedazzled by diamonds and can't take my eyes off them. It's
fascinating to watch TV cooks make messy things and still manage to
keep their jewelry sparkling clean! Sometimes I think they are hired
for that skill alone.

Man I get tired of the RR bashing. The show is designed to get the
people who are buying takeout or using frozen premade stuff to start
thinking about preparing their own.

The show's not for me, so I don't watch it. It's really as simple as
that.

I think she also does a good job "educating" novice cooks on how to
multitask. How to plan out the meal prep so as to reach the end point
all together. How to work on something else while that big pot of water
is being brought to a boil.... some people just don't seem to be able to
do more than one dish at a time. She shows them how they can!

What is it about fat women who like to wear multiple rings on ugly fat
sausage fingers? Drives me batty because not only is it so unattractive
(nothing like calling attention to your fat hands) but wearing them
while preparing food is just gross. At least with the money she's
pulling in now she can buy herself better rings than many I see.

Just one of my pet peeves.

I've made a career of watching TV cooks jewelry and can tell you she's
an expert at this. I never see her fingers go into in messy food past
the first bendy part when she's sporting her rocks. What she does
with her fingertips takes me my arm (often up to the elbow)!

Trust me, she offers Nigella no competition. Nigella is better looking and
is infinitely sexier than Rachel. Nigella's voice and words turn me on.
Rachel's voice is and incessant jabber is annoying.

Yup. She's like the scold that won't go away.

She doesn't cook. She assembles. She can't cook.

Her voice is grating and irritating. I simply never could watch her show
more than just a few minutes. That chesire cat grin and the insipid Betty
Rubble giggle are unbearabl. She reminds me of somebody who has smoked a
lot of pot. They get that wide SEG and they can't stop giggling.

Not even. In fact I get quite the opposte affect if you know what I mean.
I'd sooner have an IRS audit than a date with her.

Oh, man... if you don't know, either you're lucky or you haven't
turned 50 yet (which is when most MDs tell you to do one).
