Now I've seen it all... I saw this in the new Cabela's camping
catalog. They have some pretty cool outdoor cooking things, but this one is way over the top. I'm still shaking my head. http://www.cabelas.com/spod-1/0005934.shtml Lou |

I've got a 500W inverter installed in my pickup (cost about $40) and could run an extension cord from the cab back to the tailgate. That seems a lot more practical. I mean, what if you can't get the engine started on that gas-powered thing? ==(8-0 Does it take regular gas or 2-cycle mix? Bob |

But it's more efficient to go directly from chemical energy to mechanical work, without the intermediate step of conversion to electricity. This could be serious if you were making lots of margarietas, all day long. Though a two-stroke engine is likely to pollute like crazy. Maybe you wouldn't notice that, if you were smoking and drinking. |

They run diesel engines to generate elctricity which then drives electro-magnetic motors which generate enormous torque. Paul |

Diesel-electric locomotives are used because the electrical section substitutes for the clutch and transmission system that would otherwise be needed, not because of any gain in efficiency from having additional energy conversion stages (which, of course, cannot occur). A direct-drive system would be more efficient for locomotives if they didn't have to travel at variable speeds and spend much of their time idling. Margarieta mixers are a constant load (when they are under load) and don't spend any time idling. |

Actually, your assuming that you can pour a margarita and pour the ingredients in for the next one without stopping the engine then.... (otherwise, your idleing....) You need a clutch and a point you need to remove the load in order to empty the mixer and re-load.... Otherwise, you'd crank up the engine and shut it off each time you mix a drink, which would be highly in-effecient.... |

One night we were walking back to our cabin and we heard a gas engine and peals of laughter coming from one of the cabins. We went over to investigate and were invited in for a Daiquiri. The guy has a "Daiquiri Whacker", a gas powered blender with the throttle on a set of handle bars attached the the base. It was hilarious. |

That big box place is filled with ridiculous stuff and since they claim they are "outfitters" it all must be required for a proper expedition. The other interesting thing about that place is the prices. People are so conditioned to go to big box stores "for good prices" that they never consider the alternatives. I can buy guns from a well stocked local shop owned by a family for a minimum of 30% less than the big box place. And he is a very knowledgeable ex special forces guy. |

But with all the cute little "necessities" you'd need to go camping or tailgating you could go on a nice cruise with the money instead. Lou |

When you pull in the lot you will see many customer's pickup trucks with 3' wide "cabellas" stickers on them. When you go in the store they enforce their marketing that they aren't a big box store but are "outfitters" with the displays and signage. People were loading their carts up with all of the "necessities" from the "outfitters". The other interesting thing is that people seem to be totally unconcerned about prices. The prices especially of guns are much higher than a real gun shop. |

Here's what I call a real "Tailgater". http://www.stumpssmokers.com/gallery_2/gallery.htm And I actually do have an early model of the Tailgater Smoker. BOB |

It amazes me.... With today's gas prices, people are so addicted to their alcohol that they're willing to fork out even more money on alcohol and gasoline to get plastored where they'll be required to drive their own self back home.... And people wonder why our economy is the way it is.... |

I hate to spoil your self-righteousness, but who's to say people are not using them to mix protein shakes and fruit smoothies? ;-) (still, the gasoline engine seems kind of silly) Bob |

Likewise, ever notice why advertisements for fully automatic rifles with a folkding stock don't mention how it's handy for hunting rabbits... Could be they prefer put their advertising money where it's going to be best used.... |

(I can't imagine buying ammo to keep a machinegun fed. Not even a .22) Best regards, Bob -- *what Carolyn McCarthy said a "barrel shroud" was. A barrel shroud is one of the things she wants banned on semiautomatic weapons because they look scary. |
