Default Treats versus weather

Today was the scheduled "ice cream social" (actually packaged Ted
Drewes frozen custard) to celebrate the cumpnee's great performance
last year and the subsequent fat bonus we all got. Unfortunately, it's
also a nasty sleet and freeze kind of day. Those that came in today
were punching out early. Only about ten of us were still around for the
festivities.

There were probably twice that many ice cream cups that didn't get
eaten. The secretary packed them all in the galley freezer, but I'll be
swiping one later.

An ice cream cup? Is that really the best they can do to show appreciation?

At least you have leftovers for the next few days.

Well, there was the "fat bonus" too. This is just something our boss's
boss dreamed up. The other people on the floor didn't get anything.

Heh. He did mention something about a bonus. But really, some companies do
absolutely nothing to show appreciation for anything. At least they made an
effort.

On the flip side, where I used to work they'd have things like "build your
own sundae" events for no apparent reason. They had something akin to a
spirit committee (like in high school) who thought these things up.

Actually, I said "fat bonus".

It wasn't the company, it was the project manager who organized it. The
company probably paid for it.

I'm picturing five pounds of side pork.

Or perhaps that means that bonuses are awarded based on the weight of the
employee.

Yes, of *course* I know that it refers to a decent cash bonus.

LOL At least it would have been pork with fat on it! All the extra lean
(then injected) pork is depressing.

Tough competetion in software engineering!

A satisfying one. My boss has daughters in college, and said her bonus
was already spent.

Anyway, it was really just the incongruity of the ice cream and the ice
falling from the sky. The funny thing was, when I finally left the
other evening (I come in later and leave later than most), the roads
were in great shape.

OK, that's different. He also probably has a budget to stay within. You
mentioned that the people on the floor did not get anything. Why not?
Often they are the most overlooked, but they are the ones doing the labor.

I said "other people". They're in a different project. "The floor" just
referred to us cube rats.

There were only like two cups of chocolate this time. I prefer the
vanilla anyway. I've heard rumors of strawberry, but there was none
such this time.

Brian (thinking about going out to scrape ice now)
