Default Personal responsibility with food...

Sorry, but I've heard from people recently that McD's new "Trans-fat
free" fries suck. I've not tried them.

Everybody has to take personal responsibility for their diets/lives and
I don't give a rats ass how "healthy" any one food item is supposed to
be, if it tastes like crap, why waste the calories?

This video is the perfect example of how people make their own choices.

Would _I_ eat it?

Maybe once, just for the bragging rights.
Just like funnel cakes. ;-)

As a regular diet item? No way in hell, unless I was suicidal.

I'm glad that I happen to enjoy a healthy diet for the most part, but
even I like some bad stuff once in awhile, and that should be MY choice,
not some vote whore in Washington DC.

Outlawing Trans-fat oil is just stupid, wrong, ignorant and the perfect
example of "PC" gone WAY overboard. Allowing lawmakers to make dietary
choices for is is wrong wrong wrong:

I know where that place is. I may have to stop there next time I'm in
the area (for a steak and onion rings, not the bacon.)

Am I the only one who noticed that the instrumental music they were
playing was "When The Roll Is Called Up Yonder"? I wonder what the
significance of that was? ;-)

I agree on the steak and onion rings. :-)
I may pass on the chicken fried bacon... It looks gross.

If a substance is everywhere in food, we have LESS choices available for
avoiding it. Therefore, it's GOOD that trans fats are vanishing. You were
wrong about this.

Good point. And let's not forget about the children. I'd just
a'soon not throw them to the dogs because their parents don't know any
better (or it's the best they can do, or they don't care, whatever).

Personally, I like the size of their steaks, but I'd want a salad with it,
not deep fried onion rings. And I'd give the bacon a miss. Way to ruin good
bacon.

But all in all I'd give Soladacks of Snook, Texas, a miss as they allow
people to smoke inside while you're trying to eat.

I'm thinking that compared to the bacon, the cigarette actually might be
healthy. :-)

Aside from issues of second hand smoke, there's the smell issue. Nothing
more repulsive than having to smell/ingest cigarette smoke when you're
trying to eat a meal.

And if you're a smoker and say there's nothing wrong with it.... I'll
eat a plate of roasted onions and take a dump right next to you while
you try to eat a meal.

I don't get it. Trans-fats have nothing at all to do with flavor. They
increase shelf life is all. So how would a french fry cooked in something
like natural vegetable or corn oil taste worse than if cooked in some
trans-fat?

I will sample some and report back. I haven't been to a McDs in years so
this should be interesting.

Actually, I do smoke sometimes (bourbon seems to promote it). But, I never
smoke indoors, and if I'm in my car, the window MUST be opened. Smoking is
now banned in public places in NY, but before that, I'd never eat in a place
where people were likely to be smoking. It was actually pretty rare in
decent restaurants, and more likely in bars that served food.

Around 1970, when I was 17, my family was in a restaurant and some guy lit
up a cigar when we were still eating. Twice, my dad politely asked him to
put it out. Twice, the guy refused. Finally, my dad got up, grabbed it out
of his hand, and put it in the guy's cup of coffee. The guy left. That's
pretty much my take on smoking around other people.

That's actually a big consideration...

I won't eat anyplace that allows smoking indoors any more.
It ruins the atmosphere, and the food.

I generally served steaks with salads here or a side of steamed veggies.

Not sure, but I've heard people complaining about it.

I've not had french fries for months either. They are not a routine part
of my diet, and they don't agree with me. I have a sensitivity to
nightshade plants.

hang on, stop tapdancing......... lets clarify some things here. You said
you "smoke sometimes (bourbon seems to promote it)" and "if I'm in my car,
the windows MUST be opened". Correct??

So......... do you drink, then drive? Or drink and drive?

Nobody could live long enough to cover that fat ass with kisses. A normal
human might make it to the 50 yard line by age 90, but the rest would be
pure luck.

They should put the tallow back in.

expertise at a couple of restaurants while I was up in Canada. I
didn't sound completely stupid... at least I knew Barossa was like
saying Napa or Sonoma.

Yep, the Barossa trip was early June. (damn!! Still have to load the
photo's from that one!!)
We're off to Tasmania in a few weeks to have a look at some wineries and
produce sources down there.

Did you actually get some Barossa wines up there?

If you have a look about 3/4 of the way down this list, you'll see
Schiller Vineyards Stone Train. It's one of the wines (the 2001-3&4
vintages) that's making it's way up here to the restaraunt.

The grapes used in production of the Stone Train are the same grapes
sourced by Penfolds for their Grange and RWT.

They had barossa wine(s) on the wine menu, but I don't know one grower
from another. Too bad I didn't have an IPhone so I could have
consulted you right then and there in the restaurant. LOL!

Well......... my consultation fees are quite reasonable (room, board,
I'll supply the wine) ..... and I *am* available 24/7 :-)

And if you're in SanFran area, you can go see my (Aussie) best mate.
He's at Half Moon Bay.

Kenny's been there surfin' the break at the Bay, going to Stanford,
jumpin' outta planes....... doing normal shite.
