Default Combination Microwave/Convection Oven

I would like to replace my microwave with a microwave/convection
combo. My question is---my current microwave is a countertop one. My
kitchen cabinetry has a microwave shelf (solid wood) that the
microwave fits into so it doesn't take up counterspace.

Would I be able to place a microwave/convection combo in this wooden
space or would the microwave get too hot during while using the
covection part?

Also--I have been looking at over the range combos--how difficult are
they to install? Do they need out side venting??

Thanks

I would think that a MW/convection oven that would fit in a space above
a stove would be a smaller one. Are convection ovens that small still
useful?

Installation was more difficult than I expected it to be, and
I got why the place wanted $100 to do it. Still, you could do
it, but you will need someone strong to pick up the unit and
guide it onto whatever bracket system it has.

An over-the-stove unit should be (probably will be)
designed so you can vent it outside or recirculate. If you can
vent it outside, that's best; true for any stove vent you have.

My large microwav/confection unit sits directly on my countertop which is
just formica or whatever it is called these days. It does require free
board space to vent properly but nothing has burnt, discolored or melted
yet.

I did it this way as it is too big to go above anything. I got it because
when I opted for a new stove, the new stove wasn't large enough inside,
to handle more than 1 item at a time so large family get togethers were
harder to manage, if I couldn't deal with a turkey/ham/large meat item
and a casserole or two of side dishes at the same time. The added
microwave/convection oven works well to handle several casseroles,
stacked, while the main oven handles the meat. I use it fairly often
sorta as a toaster oven for home made pre-frozen dinners when not nuking
stuff with it.
