Default What the heck?

Please folks, don't think me rude! I joined this Google group last
Friday. I'm usually active on the Google Face & Body Painting groups.
This morning I had a gajillion emails (in digest form) with a huge
number of something about Pastorio (What's he got to do with this?) &
diabetes & being saved. I'm not Christian, but I've always been
tolerant because others have been tolerant of me! BUT; I love cooking,
not wading through fanaticism. I understand y'all are used to these
people, but I'm afraid having to skip past all the rants will just
raise my blood pressure & turn my mind from the important issues in
life; chocolate, garlic, meats, baking, etc. ;o)
May all of you have perfect oven temps every day & may your cakes
always rise!
love & sprinkles,
Cat

report Chung to abuse. That's where all the faux religious, anti-Pastorio,
fanaticism is coming from. We need to exorcise him from the internet.

Think of this as a neighborhood -- some are new neighbors, some are old and
dear friends, and some are kooks. In addition to sharing an interest in
cooking and eating, we also share our ups and downs in life. Pastorio was
an old, dear and extremely talented and gifted friend who died recently. We
shared our loss together. This is an unmoderated group so you will find all
the odds and ends that you mentioned. Moderated groups are available that
are limited strictly to the stated subject of food. Give us a chance and
you will soon determine what postings you wish to skip.

I would add, just view via the web, don't get emails.

Unfortunately reporting the spam does nothing to get rid of it. Your
only defense is a good newsreader with good filtering capabilities.
And never respond to them.

As soon as they find Jesus, they can't wait to give him to you. LOL
Every village has a few nuts, including this one. Use a newsreader with
kill filters, or just skip over their messages. Report the offenders to
their ISP, sometimes it helps. There is plenty of good info in this
group, so I hope you stick around.

This is not a google group -- this is a Usenet group that you're
viewing through google's archives of it. Get a real newsreader, and
you'll be able to filter out anything you don't want to see. I
never see the spammy stuff you mentioned.

Ya hit the nail smack-dab on the head. If Google disappeared, usenet would
still be around. The best advice is just what you gave.

I just discover the "ignore thread" on my news reader, makes it even
easier than before to ignore stuff i am not interested in.

Couldn't agree more. Get a decent newsreader. I've paid for mine, but
I understand that there are some free newsreaders available that are
good too.

There is a pretty good level of on topic posting here, but
it's not free of spam or off topic material. Best to filter or
ignore what you want to avoid.
