I was in Nawlins once over 20 years ago and went to Ralph and Kacoo's (I could have sworn it as Kacoo and Ralph's but not according to their web site - my was is easier to say) for dinner. I had the 7(?) Shrimp Dinner which was shrimp prepared 7(?) different ways. (I just went to their web site and I see that they don't have that item any more. ;-( Bummer. It was excellent except for the soft-shelled crab. I gave it a shot but yuck!) It may have had a shrimp gumbo included. Anyway, I hate okra and am not fond of file powder used as thickening. If I ever came across a gumbo recipe that I thought I might like I would leave out the item that makes it gumbo - either the okra or file - so I guess I still wouldn't be eating gumbo, regular or otherwise. ;-) I guess it would just be soup or stew, or maybe stoup.
