Default New Year's 2007 Food Resolutions.

In 2007, I resolve to visit Chicago and try a Chicago deep-dish pizza pie and
a Chicago Italian beef sandwich, or two.

In 2007, I resolve to try cornflakes and milk for breakfast.

You?

Cathy,

You're welcome!

I'm gonna send your post to CotD #1. He'll probably say "Second to none,
huh? Well that's better than nothing." ))

You're probably really busy organizing all the voting for 2007. I can't
wait!!!

Happy New Year to you and yours!

Thanks!

All the best,

Andy

I had them once. Be sure you have something decent to take the taste

I think if you add berries or bananas to them, you can manage.

I resolve to focus more on better quality ingredietns for my cooking. I'll
gladly pay the extra money if/when necessary.

Ii also resolve to slow down on cookbook buying. No more shelf space, and my
reading them isn't keeping up.

Mine is the opposite of yours...to buy more cookbooks.. LOL.

My cookbook buying has slowed down over the past year, as I saved
money to move here to NM, and to get my furniture out of storage. Now
that this is done, I can now afford to buy an occasional new/used/old
cookbook here and there. My resolution is to get back up to
speed....

So many cookbooks, so little time in which to get back up to my usual
buying habits..

What speed do you want to get back up to? I suspect mine was about 2 books a
week this year, ussually remainders and used books.

Hmm..in a good year, it was at least that speed, if not more. When I
lived in the Sacramento area back in the early 90's, there was a
bookstore in the area that had a fabulous sale table. I went in there
every week at least, and probably walked out with at least 4
cookbooks.
Of course, when new cookbooks came out, I was first in line as
well.... This was in the days before Amazon...

Now, I have a long list of cookbooks to get... I expect that sometime
in the new year, I will be sending an order to Amazon...

Of course, this doesn't include the new kitchen equipment I want.....

Hubby has to get his gout under control. The big criteria of weight
and alcohol consumption are not an issue in his case, so it has to be
diet related. Now we have to figure out what his triggers are. It's
going to be a PITA for him because he loves seafood and red meat.

Know any places online where I can find gout friendly recipes?

It's a wonderful site, and the woman who runs it is an old net.friend
of mine. My food blog wants to be hers when it grows up.

Nothing really, you can make as good or better at home...I much prefer a
Philly cheeze steak.

Deep - dish Chicawgo - style 'za does nothing for me either, it's just a lot
of bready dough AFAIC...

Me, I'd give my left hand for a good breaded pork tenderloin sammich,
unfortunately the best nearest ones are over in Iowa...can't find one for
love or nothin' here in Chicago.

You can watch my non-opinionated posts if you like.

OBFood: Omelets for dinner tonight. I made a tapenade of sorts with
olives, a bit of some designer anchovies my daughter gave me for
Christmas, some lemon juice, a few capers, and olive oil. I made a
vinaigrette with a little of the tapenade, some cider vinegar, a
dollop of Dijon mustard, and olive oil. The omelets had chopped hot
cappocola, grated locateli, and green onions in them. The vinaigrette
went on some arugula. The tapenade went on the omelets.

I will refrain from expressing an opinion about the meal.

Been there, got the T shirt and anything thicker than 1/2" isn't a
pizza. If you want something good get real kielbasa and pierogies at a
place like Bobaks.

Maybe I will. I also have half a mind to resolve to visit Memphis, Kansas
City or somewhere deep in the heart of Texas and see what all the noise is

If you are ever near Owensboro, KY drop in there for great BBQ. I used
to go to a company near there when we were doing a big equipment
installation. I had no idea they were into BBQ but they consider
themselves the "world capital of BBQ". The Moonlite Diner is one of the
more popular places. It was the first time I had mutton BBQ.

Andy,

We recently relocated from the Memphis area. If you want to get as many bbq
possibilities in one place at one time go for Memphis in May. Those are some
serious serious bbq professionals and amateurs alike. There are amazing
setups at the festival. One year there was flooding on the Mississippi
during Memphis in May which is held right on the river. The BBQers dug in
and stayed right there since they already had meat cooking. The next day the
meat was ready on time, and the river had gone back down, everyone still got
to eat their fill.

You need to take a big appetite and make sure you keep your wallet close,
crime is a big problem down on the river.

Here's the link... http://www.memphisinmay.org/ (Not affiliated just an
appreciative eater at several festivals.)

Thanks for sharing that! I would love to see people share their local
food festival information ahead of time instead of after the fact so
people can take a lil road trip to visit them.
In my area there is the Salley Chitlin Strut held yearly... with more
shocking to me-a good turn out!!! eeeeegads. LOL

about BBQ, Memphis RULES!!!

I should visit. Sounds like more fun than the Kentucky Derby!

Thanks!

Keep experimenting with the Cameron stovetop smoker I got after reading
about it here. For dedicated smoke-eaters who'd like to get a bit of
that smokey taste, even when the weather's nasty, they're great!

It may be to never try duck. It was more or less a resolution
before because I have never cooked a good duck. Instead of
getting better with practice, they got worse. After the last one
I gave up. Last summer my wife's cousin cooked a duck for us to
show me that it could be done. It was fantastic. He gave me his
recipe. If it works well on Sunday night we will have a great
New Years Eve dinner. If it doesn't, I will have time to make my
formal resolution to never again cook duck.

I resolve to eat more fresh vegetables (or frozen if fresh isn't in season).
I used to be great about veggies but in the last couple of years I've been
rather lazy about them except for winter and summer squashes; I love squash.
I love most vegetables, with only a few exceptions. Too bad there isn't
(*really, you CA folks* there isn't!) a good farmer's market in the area.

You've never had cornflakes and milk for breakfast before?

I don't make resolutions, but I'd like to try some new foods this year
-- stuff I've never ever had before. I was just reading _Feeding a
Yen_ by Calvin Trillin, and there were several candidates in there.
