What is taco seasoning mix and where can I find it? Asyou see, I haven't
been cooking long. I have a recipe that calls for it. |

Most supermarkets will have this in envelopes, packets, or jars, either in the baking/spice aisle or in the ethnic or Mexican food section. -- Wayne Boatwright __________________________________________________ I have seen the future, and it looks a lot like the present -- only much longer. --Dan Quisenberry |

I have a recipe that calls for it. =============== I suggest you buy Mexican Seasoning in a jar in the spice section of your supermarket. It keeps well, and is less expensive, in the long run, than the foil packets. Nancree |

Look for the section in the supermarket that has those packets of gravy mix. Or in the section where they sell those taco kits, I'm pretty sure they have the packets there, too, or just buy the kit. Of course you could make your own, I don't have a recipe, myself, but I know there are a gazillion if you google. nancy |

Not only much cheaper than those little packets (US about $1.00) but it uses spices I already have so it keeps my supplies used/replaced/fresh. * Exported from MasterCook * Homemade Taco Seasoning Mix Recipe By : Serving Size : 1 Preparation Time :0:00 Categories : Mexican Odds And Ends Amount Measure Ingredient -- Preparation Method -------- ------------ -------------------------------- 1 tablespoon red chili powder 1 teaspoon paprika 1/2 teaspoon salt 1 teaspoon cumin powder 1 teaspoon garlic powder 1 teaspoon oregano 2 teaspoons onion powder 1 teaspoon sugar Combine all ingredients until well blended. This to equal 1 1.25 oz. package of seasoning mix I add it to the browned beef, with about a 1/3 cup of water to help mix it evenly into the meat (just like you when following package instructions) and then allow the water to cook off. |

I just figured that if someone's just starting to cook, it might be pricey to get all those spices. That is the best thing, you know those mixes you buy are so salty. nancy |

If the OP's recipe already calls for garlic or onion there's no need to put powders in. Likewise, the paprika is mostly there for color, so it's often not needed. Salt and sugar are best added as needed for the total recipe rather than what's proportional for a spice mix. -aem |

Good for all kinds of tex-mex, including tacos. http://zadies.com/zadies_001.htm Dawn |
