I rather enjoyed watching them, too.

Not really! She's from Savannah GA and a friend of mine has been to
her restaurant there many times.

I think she has a rather forced nervous sort of a laugh, but that
could just be her trying to appear jovial for the camera. She is a
very good cook, however. As for the make-a-wish thing, I wouldn't
judge her too harshly for that. Not everyone is suited to it, and
just because she has a cooking show doesn't mean she is obligated to
reply positively to anyone who asks. Maybe she was too touched by it
and didn't think she could hold her emotions in check.

I always think the best of people rather than the worst.... especially
people I don't know personally.

Some people here are FAR too judgemental, saying they hate this one or
that one. These folks are PEOPLE just like we are. They have
fears, wishes, anxieties, health challenges, etc. etc. Just like we
do.

And just for the heck of it, I will BET you that Ina has diabetes
issues as well. A lot of cooks do, especially the overweight
ones....just like the rest of us.

I love Ina. Her laid back way of cooking, no frenzy etc., is soothing. She
and Jeffrey don't have children so she might not be comfortable with
children she doesn't know. I think it's a bit over the top for you to even
suggest that the kid might not have been "cute enough" since you're
speculating about something that you have no inside knowledge about.

I have only ever seen her Christmas and thanksgiving specials and random
spots on other shows.

my only beef with her is she waited until she could monetize her illness
with her son having a show and them both being spokespeople for big pharma.

the few times I saw her she in NO way said this was a "sometimes" food..

Even then I wouldnt care but I watched her sons show..it the age old
replace the fat with less fat and it's "healthy" now garbage.

he replaced the glazed doughnut with a whole grain one and declared it
healthy.

their one type 2 diabetic recipe on their new site replaces the meat in the
lasagna with a leaner meat

I wasnt one of the people laughing at her for getting sick..but I did take
a closer look as to what she was selling then and more importantly what she
is selling now.

some poor fool is going to think they can eat lasagna and doughnut burgers
just like Paula as long as they reduce the fat in the recipe and of course
take whatever drug she is pushing.

sad..

bread on bread thing for me.

my mom was a carb addict and a type one <didnt end well> and would eat
porcupine meatballs over egg noodles and flour gravy...

and have garlic bread with it...

I can't stand to watch Ina. Although her food looks good she has such a
monotone voice and for some weird reason she is always inviting people over
to eat.

I like the Neely's! I know some people can't stand them but they seem real
to me.

The thought of that meal doesn't do anything for me When I made the
porcupine meatballs I can probably guarantee we had it with brown gravy,
mash and veggies. I have no idea if my kids liked it or not as my first
husband took no crap at the table. You ate, you ate it all and you never
complained.

I had "fried" ice cream once and it was a no go. I now know it isn't fried
at all. Just wrapped in corn flakes. Don't know how they can get away with
calling it fried.

How is that NOT fried?

Scoop ice cream into 8 - 1/2 cup sized balls. Place on baking sheet and
freeze until firm, about 1 hour.
In a shallow dish, combine cornflakes and cinnamon. In another dish, beat
egg whites until foamy. Roll ice cream balls in egg whites, then in
cornflakes, covering ice cream completely. Repeat if necessary. Freeze again
until firm, 3 hours.
In deep fryer or large, heavy saucepan, heat oil to 375 degrees F (190
degrees C).
Using a basket or slotted spoon, fry ice cream balls 1 or 2 at a time, for
10 to 15 seconds, until golden. Drain quickly on paper towels and serve
immediately.

Here, it is ice cream in batter. Cooked very quickly at high heat so the
ice cream doesn't have a chance to melt. Chinese restaurants sell it.

: Yep. And geez! Wholegrain donuts? If yer gonna have a donut, have the
: real thing

You may be right, but when I was oung a quick lunch place, Chock Full
O'Nuts used to make a simply delicious whole wheat doughnut with powdered
sugar on it. Any other New Yorkers remember them?

The recipe I saw for it was not fried. It was just a ball of ice cream
rolled in cornflakes and refrozen.

This is similar to the recipe I saw.

http://www.grouprecipes.com/43001/fr...not-fried.html

I looked it up after Angela had it in a restaurant and wanted to know how it
was fried. The waiter laughed, said it was not fried and was just rolled in
cornflakes. So I looked it up and found plenty of recipes that were not
actually fried.

Hmmm... I've never seen ice cream in a Chinese place. But I have seen it
in a Mexican place in CA.

I have relatives in Louisiana, they had a southern drawl for sure We
lived in the Florida Panhandle(AKA Southern Alabama) for 6 years...lots of
sweet southern talking there. Some of the nicest people I have ever met were
from West Virginia...and they really had a drawl, and fixed all kinds of
Southern Fried food. My Dad was from Louisiana and Arkansas...everything he
cooked was Southern Fried...except for his ribs...he lost his drawl during
his world travels.

My dh is from Texas, and he still says y'all sometimes. He said when he came
to CA the hardest thing for him to get used to was everyone saying "you
guys."

When my kids were small I made them a lot...sometimes made a sweet and sour
sauce for them...or simmered them in BBQ sauce . Hubby was only a three
stripper so Ground Beef was a Big staple in our household.
