Default Where is the Egg Talk?

Well, I couldn't find the discussion we were having on soft boiled eggs
and egg cups, but I want to report that it so inspired me that I dug out
my cute rooster egg cup(2 sided kind) and haad 2 soft/medium boiled eggs
for breakfast. Oh, was that good! I will keep the egg cup out with my
other everyday use dishes so it doesn's creep back to th eback of the
cabinet again. I don't know why the eggs taste better in there, but the
do!

I had a plastic rooster egg cup once - now using some kind of stoneware.

Medium boiled egg for breakfast when I have the soy flakes/nuts/bran/etc.
mix with plain yoghurt. More often it's an omelette, with cheese topping,
and mixed with a handful of chopped herbs from the garden: lovage,
parsley, tree onion stalk or chives, oregano, spignel which I thought was
only ornamental, actually it adds a curry flavor. Autumn is coming - I
should pick a lot of these and freeze portion packs.

That soft boiled egg I was finally allowed to have was the most
delicious thing I ever tasted. A tiny sprinkle of salt and pepper
was all it needed. Perfect!

Last year I was buying cartons of egg whites, and mixing them with our own
eggs. My chickens are getting elderly, and don't lay enough to allow me to
squander eggs. Normally, if we have any extra yolks we give them to the dog.
I could never bring myself to throw them away!

I seem to recall that my grandmother would mix in a little pat of butter and
some salt and pepper if the yolk was just a bit too firm to dip the toast
soldiers in. Now I am developing a yen for a boiled egg, but alas, have no
egg cups! It just isn't the same without them.

Lol, cut a piece out of the egg carton.

When my grandkids were babies I have used protective caps that come with
bottles, some are great for egg cups Where there's a will there's a
way! One of my sons used the spout of a plastic juice container once.

You can easily substitute a shot glass for an egg cup.

Speaking of cats, puke and hairballs...

I've posted in the past about Jasper's water gulping and increasing puke
fests, which would diminish each time I changed food, then resume,
finally resulting in bright pink water puddles of puke, about a 25%
sudden weight loss and a home visit by a vet who insists he be sedated
before she ever tries to examine him again (he's very anxiety ridden and
gets aggressive when he's scared/threatened in any way).

Rather than image him for possible cancer, she did blood testing
(everything perfect, despite one enlarged kidney and his health issue)
and decided to treat him with a very restricted ingredient rx diet for
presumed food allergy/inflammatory bowel disease. It's still high
protein, grain free, and the proteins are limited to rabbit and pea
since those are most unlike to foods they've had in the past.

It's been about two months and he's now gone 9 days without puking
anything up, and the last puke was a clear water puddle. He used to
retch loudly at least daily... his appetite has really begun to return
in recent days (she said an 8 week diet trial would be the tell) and
while he's still awfully skinny, I no longer feel each and every rib and
vertebra when I stroke him. He's remained active, glossy and become
much more affectionate since being treated.

To us, anyway. He's increasingly aggressive to the other cats (we now
have an obese cat from DD's move who looks like Garfield and acts like
Winnie the Pooh. It's ALWAYS time for a little something...).

So, looks like Jasper will live to see another day, and the obese kitty
is less so since he's gorging himself on grain free, high protein food
around here.

did you ever get him tested for tha other kind of diabetis we discussed
before? if he improves that is all you want... and there is something to
be said for quality of life, taking him in for a scan, might simply not be
worth it, i mean it could damage him really a lot, Lee, who loved a nurotic

there's about 100 calories to a entire egg..the white makes up about 17
calories of that 100...so if I ate 6 eggs that would be 600 calories instead
of about 200 if I use one yolk and 6 whites which leaves me calories for
other things in my day.

plus for the next month its all about getting as much protein as possible

If there has been some kind of inflammatory thing happening then he
should respond to probiotics. Sometimes people (and presumably animals)
take a very long time, sometimes never, to get over the effects of
inflammation and be able to eat without pain, vomiting and general
discomfort. Every so often I get 24 hour tummy bugs and before using
probiotics after these events I would be in pain and vomit after certain
foods for weeks. Some people say taking probiotics all the time can
actually prevent you from catching stomach bugs in the first place but I
can't afford to stay on them permanently.

We have a set of those around somewhere. I think in a box of stuff of
one of my son's that I dumped everything into when I helped him move
once. Lately I have been been buying jumbo eggs, they don't sit well in
a regular egg cup.

I switched my little puker to Spot's Stew which is high protein, and
there are some benefits. Smaller stools, less hunger, but she still
pukes. I have had some benefit by giving her raw chicken liver every
other day or so. But skip a couple of days and she will puke again.

It is very frustrating.

6whites does nothave the same amount of protein as 6 whole eggs, both
white and yold have protein, only the yolk has the fat, so 3 whole eggs
adn 6 whites about evens out on protein, not calories of fat, but yes
protein.

What I lose at brekky I can pick up later I like the fact that eggs
are very nutrient dense and the yolk have the important lutein. It also
provides me with my daily cholesterol. I'd rather get that from an egg
than anything else. So its a horses for courses thing.

I can always have a French Vanilla egg white protein shake during the
day

Our new cats are quite small. I thought Jazzy was a kitten when I first saw
her but she was 2. She only weighed 8 pounds when we got her and I don't
think she has gained. She is very muscular but seems to have no fat on
here.

Bali is super skinny and she's very long. So much so that when she runs,
it's as though the front of her and the back of her are going different
directions. She looks like one of those Slinky Dogs. And sometimes when
she lays down her front half and back half will be going different
directions. The Vet said he could tell why we named her Ballerina. She
likes to stand on her hind legs, put her front legs up high in the air and
spin in circles.

Both of them seem to eat a lot though. More than Maui ever did. They are
getting the Fancy Feast Appetizers for breakfast. If I give them tuna or
tuna and chicken they will each eat a whole package. They don't like the
other flavors as well.

Still have not found a canned or pouched food that they really like. Odd
because they would wolf down the Wellness brand when we first got them. But
then I made the mistake of giving them the Appetizers and they love those.

They eat the NOW! grainless dry food. And they always want treats but they
are picky as to what they will eat. They don't like the soft ones and no
dairy flavors.

Jazzy's fur has gotten a lot softer since we got her. When we first petted
her, her fur was very coarse. Then it started to soften a little bit but
then it would get coarse again. But now it's like a kitten. I used to be
able to tell which cat I had when they got into my bed just by touching
them. But now I can't.

They do have different voices though. Bali's voice is changing I think.
Once in a while she lets out a big cat meow but usually it's the tiny little
kitten one. Jazzy has a deeper, louder voice but she is far less vocal than
she was when we first got her. She used to talk to me a lot. But now she
doesn't.
