Has anyone tried to make this? I saw one kosher recipe for it online. It
said to sub in Splenda for the sugar but it also calls for a Tablespoon of corn syrup and it only keeps for a day. I would be making this just for Angela. I can't stand kettle corn. She loves it. I suppose if I made a larger amount I could just make it when we go to my parent's house because they like it too. My mom and I have been buying the single serve bags at TJ's. It's not sugar free but it is portion controlled. I am trying to get her as much off of the sugar as I can though. I am hoping maybe if she doesn't have sugar for a while she will lose her taste for it. Well, I can always hope. Right? |

I have never heard of > it befre. Yes. It is a sweet popcorn. I had never looked for a recipe before because I can't stand the stuff. And AFAIK it wasn't widely available here until somewhat recently. There would be stands set up here and there by senior citizens who made the stuff. Like at special events such as Farmer's Markets and grand openings of shopping centers. The stuff was really expensive IMO. My mom was usually the one who bought it, mainly because she wanted to support the senior citizens. Angela was only getting it once or twice a year so I wasn't worried about it. But now all the grocery stores have started to sell it and even the drugstores. And if you get it there it doesn't usually cost much more than regular pre-popped corn. I did look up recipes online. Some seem to just have sugar added to the oil, but you do have to do it in a certain manner or the sugar will burn. But the one kosher recipe I saw said you could use Splenda. However it did call for corn syrup. I know it's not a lot of corn syrup but corn syrup is sold in such a large bottle. And it's not something I normally keep in the house. I have seen other recipes that call for other sweeteners that I don't keep in the house. And it's usually a mix of three of them. Stevia, and two others. I just wondered if anyone had tried the Splenda to make it. Or some other sweetener. I would try it but every time I try something like that and it fails, Angela gets sooo disappointed. And seeing as how I can't stand the stuff I wouldn't be a good judge of taste. I did just buy a cinnamon and artificial sweetener mix for toast. I know it is good because I ate it years ago. That might work if we sprinkled it on the popped corn. |

I did know there were different kinds of popcorn. I knew that some kinds were best for coating such as caramel corn. But I guess I didn't realize that kettle corn needed that kind. That is not the kind we normally buy. I used to get popcorn online but for my normal purposes the stuff that I get at the health food store around the corner is fine for us. |
