Default Raisins?

I'm new to this stuff. I think I'm eating the right stuff and portion
control is the key for me now.

Breakfast has been plain oatmeal with some raisins for years. I've
started to buy the 1.5oz individual packs for portion control and am
trying to figure out how much damage that does to an otherwise proper
diet.

One package is 129 cal and 25g sugar.

According to this website 1.5oz of raisins is 20% of my target
"Estimated Glycimic Load". (I haven't really figured out egl yet but
most of what I eat has really low numbers.)

hi Al

well, think of raisins as 'concentrated sugar from grapes'

i'm most carb sensitive in the mornings and cannot keep my 1 hour PP
reading at a level i want to be at unless i have a protein/fat/carb
breakfast......... soft boiled egg on flax seed toast is one of my
favourite breakfasts

not sure this helps, but if you test post meal you will learn what your
body can cope with, we are all different!

good luck

My experience is the same as Kate's. Plain yoghurt with some almonds,
hazelnuts, a little crushed flax seeds - and a soft boiled egg on the
side :-)

At other times, our bodies can react differently:
I just found out recently that I can have a carby snack in the evening,
e.g. a slice of whole grain bread, without a spike in the blood glucose.
The only way you can know is by testing. (oh for a bowl of oatmeal ...
I'll have one tonight and test to see what happens!)

People who don't measure their blood sugar think that's a healthy
breakfast. Those of us who measure know for sure. In my case, oatmeal,
at least in a quantity that's reasonable to eat, raises my blood sugar
to levels that I find unacceptable. Aside from that, it puts me to sleep
and makes my hands tingle; those are probably short-term effects of the
blood sugar spike.
