Start with a very ripe banana, some frozen berries, a bit of yogurt and if you want, some whey powder. Whip that all up in the blender. Add milk if it is not thin enough for you, and add sweetener to taste. I used to use honey when I made them. |

I use powdered brewer's yeast as it is a good source of vitamin B's. I use yoghurt as my "milk" because it is kinder to my bg's than milk. I blend the yoghurt, brewer's yeast with Splenda and strawberries. If I am muscle building I use protein powder and water instead of yoghurt, same fruit and brewer's yeast. No Splenda because I use vanilla flavoured protein powder andit is artificially sweetened. |

I use a base of protein powder and cream when I make them - which isn't often, I must admit! To this I might add fruit (fresh or frozen), or maybe coffee powder and cocoa. The DaVinci syrups make great flavour changes. My kids sometimes like one for breakfast - then I use a banana as well, and less protein powder. Nicky. I buy an unsweetened, unflavored milk-based protein powder for maximum
versatility. Here's my favorite shake recipes: Mocha shake - Blend 12 oz cold coffee, 1 oz heavy cream, 2 scoops protein powder, 1 TB cocoa, 2 packets Equal, couple ice cubes. 5 grams carb Strawberry shake - Blend 1 cup frozen, unsweetened strawberries, 1 oz heavy cream, 12 oz cold water, 2 scoops protein powder (no ice or sweetener needed due to the strawberries). 11 grams carb. Pudding shake - 1 oz cream, 12 oz water, 1 scoop protein powder and 1/4 pack of sugar-free instant pudding (butterscotch flavor is my favorite). 8 grams carb You can also doctor up protein powder with any of the many DaVinci sugar-free syrups. My favorites are the Kahlua, Strawberry and Raspberry flavors (which I also use to flavor ricotta and yogurt). |
