Default Does it matter what chimney I get?

Homedepot has one for $9.99

Does it matter what brand?

I never used one before, I plan on getting one to use with a WSM.

Does not matter at all. The more expensive ones may be a bit larger or have
a better handle. They all work.

I think it makes a diffrence--the weber chimney starts the charcoal faster
and last longer than the discount brands!! I've tested them and the weber
wins hands down. Plus I believe the weber is still amde in Americabut don't
have any new ones around to check right now. Usually buy a few(great gifts)
when Amazon has a sale for about 12 bucks a piece.

Of course this is my opinion but I am a weber fan

don't

I have to agree with Buzz1 here. I have three chimney starters, one being
the Weber.

I lit all three of them for testing to see if it really mattered. I tried
to make my
them exactly alike (amount and size of the lump, 2 sheets of newspaper
crumpled
the same). I even tried to block all of the wind so none of them had an
advantage.

During the test, the Weber starter seemed to get the coals going faster. I
do not
know if it has something to do with the design of the air slots but I found
it rather
interesting.

Anyways, the Weber starter had the charcol ready to go about 2 to 3 minutes
faster
than its competitors.

Some people may think this was a stupid thing to do but I was severely
bored, no
meat hanging around the house to Q and felt the need to play with fire.

I use a couple of empty Folgers coffee cans (large ones from my office) with
riveted on handles. Work fine for me. Lowe's has a chimney for about six
bucks if you're DIY challenged.

I use a plain coffee can with a shitload of 3/8 holes
drilled it. No handle. I use a pair of channel-locks
to hold the can, or the leather welding gloves I
keep around for grill duty. Cheap & effective.

I like the bail on the Weber chimney, too. Helps control the
coal-dumping, and keep things just a little safer.

I've only used one - the cheap one from Home Depot. It works good enough
for me. If you like to spend money get one a little more expensive. In the
end they'll all probably get the job done just fine.

I agree with the Weber chimney recommendation.

It's bigger, so it holds more lump and lights it better than the El Cheapos.
