I've tested them and the weber wins hands down. Plus I believe the weber is still amde in Americabut don't have any new ones around to check right now. Usually buy a few(great gifts) when Amazon has a sale for about 12 bucks a piece. Of course this is my opinion but I am a weber fan Buzz |

I lit all three of them for testing to see if it really mattered. I tried to make my them exactly alike (amount and size of the lump, 2 sheets of newspaper crumpled the same). I even tried to block all of the wind so none of them had an advantage. During the test, the Weber starter seemed to get the coals going faster. I do not know if it has something to do with the design of the air slots but I found it rather interesting. Anyways, the Weber starter had the charcol ready to go about 2 to 3 minutes faster than its competitors. Some people may think this was a stupid thing to do but I was severely bored, no meat hanging around the house to Q and felt the need to play with fire. moncho |

Lowe's has a chimney for about six bucks if you're DIY challenged. |

No handle. I use a pair of channel-locks to hold the can, or the leather welding gloves I keep around for grill duty. Cheap & effective. -- Tank Welcome to the "Q" Zone |

I like the bail on the Weber chimney, too. Helps control the coal-dumping, and keep things just a little safer. -- Mark Shaw contact info at homepage --> http://www.panix.com/~mshaw ================================================== ====================== "Grown men are not comfortable explaining why they want to use the sniper rifle on fictional dogs with speech impediments." -James Lileks |

I've only used one - the cheap one from Home Depot. It works good enough
for me. If you like to spend money get one a little more expensive. In the end they'll all probably get the job done just fine. Pete > wrote in message ... > Homedepot has one for $9.99 > > Does it matter what brand? > > I never used one before, I plan on getting one to use with a WSM. > > thanks |

I agree with the Weber chimney recommendation.
It's bigger, so it holds more lump and lights it better than the El Cheapos. |
