Default Banana blossom

Hello, All!

Does anyone know where you can buy banana blossom in the DC
area? I know shredded cabbage is regarded as an alternative in
salads but I'd like to try the real thing some time.

This is where I shop; I have seen this item. I love this store - Grand
Mart. The one I shop at is at Centerville. I can't vouch for the other
stores.
It is definitely not just a Korean store as may be indicated online. It is
Hispanic as well; and I see lots of Indian and various ethnic Asian people
shopping there. The produce department is stupendous. There is no lack of
variety. The prices are great.

I had hopes since the web page stated that there were locations
in MD but then I saw that none were listed.....sad :-( However,
thanks for the information anyway. I have thought of one or two
places that I have not tried yet.

I asked the original question because Thai Goi Tom salad is
traditionally made with finely sliced raw banana blossom not
cabbage. Well, to my surprise, I found banana blossom in the
College Plaza, Rockville MD branch of the McGruder's supermarket
today. The blossom was more expensive than cabbage as you might
expect but it was a fairly good salad. Sadly, I have to admit
that I prefer cabbage!

Perhaps the Thai recipe (if originated in Thailand) knew not of cabbage, or
grew none at that time; therefore raw banana blossom was used. Perhaps they
might prefer cabbage as well - ;-))

Thanks for the follow-up.
