I'm a home winemaker looking for small quantites (6-8 cases) of 500mL
wine bottles or unique 750mL bottles for this year's apple sussreserve. Does anyone know of a good bottle source that deals in small volumes? I tried Saxco-Demptos in Kentucky but they're apparently shutting down the Kentucky warehouse and only deal in pallets which is way more than I need. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks, Charles E |

midwest brew supplies sells wine bottles by the case(12)
www.brew-winemaking.com You could always go to area restaurants and ask them for their empties...we used to do that and the people were really nice about it. |

I have picked up a couple of cases of 500 ml bottles from my local
winemaking shop (DeFalco's in Houston). I like them for my port and sherry. You are not likely to find that size for free at restaurants. For that many you might check with our local winemaking supplier. Tell him how much you can get them for mail order with shipping and see if he can come close. I always recommend that you support your local dealer where you can. That way he will be there for you in the future when you need him. That's good adice about supporting your local shop. By the way, I used
to live in Houston.Just curious if you've made much wine from local Texas fruit. If so, what types? I heard a rumor than Austin was once home to some vinifera grapes. I wasn't making wine at the time when I lived in Texas so I never checked into it. Just curious... Texas is now the home to over 100 wineries and is now worth over 100
million yearly. Take a look http://www.texaswinetrails.com/. Greg Sedgewick Halbritton wrote: > That's good adice about supporting your local shop. I buy that. I had some great local wines when I worked in Austin a few
years back. I had no idea they grew good grapes in Texas until I tasted the wine. Joe |

May be too late, but... I thought my 2 loacal wine supply stores were
too high on their bottles, $13 or $15 for a dozen(case) of 750ml. I called a local winery to see if they could sell me bottles. They told me where they get them, $8.50 per case, but I have to buy at least $50. No break on price until you buy a gross. The winery also said there is a state law here in OK. that won't allow them to reuse bottles, and they had 3 cases they gave me for free. I live an hour away from any large city, but have found several resturants and wine bars (close to each other) that are happy to save empties for me. I pick them up once a week. Sometimes I only get 3 to 5 cases, one week I brought home 12 cases. Even with high gas prices, I'm still ahead. I also happened to see some recycling bins in the same area. The fist week it was very empty, but a few weeks later, I was able to reach in a grab 2 3L bottles. They didn't have caps, but I plan to use them when racking from 1gal. Stu,
Most of mine came from restaurants too. In my locale we have a law where the empty bottles must be broken each night; it's crazy. I got well over 100 from one restaurant for one nights dining, my Sentra was literally full of bottles. The only bottles I buy are 375 ml and 10 pressure sparkling wine bottles, the former because you just don't see a lot of them used and the later because the last thing I need is a wine grenade...
