Default Marigold Wine

Hi,

I just found this group, and it has already been helpful to me in my
very new attempts at winemaking.

We have a yard full of beautiful marigolds, so I am interested in
making marigold wine. I have a few recipes--all very similar. I am
wondering what it tastes like and if it is good. I also questioned the
type of marigold. I don't have pot marigolds, but just ordinary what I
think are american marigolds. Does anyone know if this type will do?

I appreciate any help!

I've done this. Any sort of marigolds seem to work. You
use only the petals and it produces a light, flowery wine
somewhat reminiscent of dandlelion.

Several years back I had a wonderful crop of Golden Jubilee Marigolds.
I entered them (as flowers) in the fall fair. Got 2nd prize.

The next year I entered my Marigold wine. Now one thing that bothers
me is the judges here don't want any labels on the bottles. Now it is
beyond me why they don't want to know what they are drinking...
However.. My marigold wine failed miserabley with the critique that
fortifing the wine detracts from the flavour of the fruit. 1- NO
fruit and 2- NO fortify.

I enjoyed the wine and it was soon gone. Maybe again some year... and
yes it does have a simmilar taste to dandelion..slightly more spicey.
