Default First time with the bladder press

Sunday is press day for the Merlot, and I seem to recall someone in here
commenting that they first get the air out of the bladder before filling it
with water.

Will the bladder not expand properly if air is left in? More importantly,
how did you get the air out? I tried squeezing the bag with the drain valve
open, then closing the valve. The bladder was certainly left sucked in, is
that the idea here?

Brian
