I've made wild cherry wine and if you don't crush any pits, you're OK.
They're pretty tough and I didn't have any problems but they have been
known to kill a horse who has eaten them. Of course, a horse is going
to crush everything. I and my friends liked the wine that resulted.

I was told by a horseman that horses love them but there is cyanide in
the pits as there is also in peach pits but not to the same degree. He
said that they cut down any wild cherry near their horse pasture.

I put a tarp down and shook the branches and got enough for 5 gal
without much trouble.
