Default TN: 2001 Lago di Corbara

Whilst traveling in Minneapolis this last week, had dinner at Broder's
pasta bar (if you haven't been, do). With dinner, we had a bottle of
2001 Lago di Corbara DOC, an Umbrian blend from Castello di Corbara.

50% Sangiovese, 25% Cabernet Sauvignon, 25% Merlot. Alcohol 13%.

The wine is a deep, dark purple - reminisecent of some Petit Syrah's.
The nose initially was clearly Cabernet Sauvignon - winey, with lots of
fruit. Palate soft, with a medium and smooth finish. As the wine opened
up, both the nose and the palate opened - with a somewhat spicy cassis
character showing. While still notable tannins, the wine is very ready
to drink.

As with so many Italian wines, Lago di Corbara can best be described as
enjoyable, and "very drinkable". Not sure where to get this wine - none
of my regular merchants carry it - but if you can get it at a moderate
price, I recommend it for your next Italian meal.
