Default Two beauiful whites

Last night at a small dinner party, my host poured two whites that were
both impressive. The first was a Gruner Vettiner and I have to admit
that I am not a fan of this grape but this was different from any that
I have tasted in the past. It was a 2003 Mautlerhof Spiegel. It was not
the timid or subtle wine that I am familiar with but rather a real in
your face powerful wine that would wake any one up. Lot of lovely fruit
right there where you could get at it. The next white was a 1998
Chateau Souverain Reserve Chardonnay. Not a hint of oak. The fruit
was certainly pronounced on the nose but did not follow through on
the pallet. It was a well rounded mature wine not very representative
of what I expect a California Chardonnay to be. The taste lingered on
and on.

Nice notes Bill ...

Just goes to show how a nice chard .. when given some age ... truly
comes into it's own.

However, I have to buffer that statement with the fact that I love my
white burgs old to the point where they even have a touch of
oxidation.

Just had an '86 Ch. Meursault the other night. Chuckle .. we
literally had to "race" through the bottle because it was turning off
almost right after opening. but those first few glasses were heaven.
