TN: 1991 La Nerthe CdP blanc
This was bought from the estate but moved with us (by boat) to SF and
later to Normandie. Still in spite of the opportunities for madirazation it has always been in good storage. Old CdP blanc is not for everyone, but we enjoy the aspects the wine takes on, and this bottle was really fantastic. It held throughout a dinner of grilled sea bass and kale followed by a neighbor's chevre without a sign of breaking up. A very deep golden color. Honey, a little mango in the nose. Very rich mouth feel, and long, with just enough acidity to provide balance. Provencal honey flavors, with a little orange and walnut overtones, jasmine. Quite sweet, we might have guessed an older chenin blind. Great balance and elegance, wish we had more than a single bottle left. -E |

But I've stopped buying Rhone whites, I just don't find good value even in ones I like. |

I have a few older bottles of Rhone Blanc's that I just haven't had much luck with. The 1999 Chapoutier L'Oree in particular has been dissapointing. About half of the bottles I've opened have been badly oxidized and way past their prime. |
