Default Identity Thief?

Just for the hell of it, I looked up Scarpitti in Google. Here is a
direct quote from another poster on rec.photo.darkroom:

Troll? I think the answer is obvious. He goes on my killfile list.

BTW, the Google pages make interesting reading. If I wanted to write
an article about trolls, that is where I would start.

There are far too many people in this group that jump on anyone with
a different opinion (and lets face it, that is what most of this group
is). Calling some one names is great if you are a net cop. Too many
good people have been chased out of this group by such actions as this.
I googled on Scarpitti's postings and I did not find anything at all
that would indicate that he is a troll. He is remarkably opinionated
and bases most of what he has posted in this group to his own experience
but I would like to think that if he sticks around he will become more
educated and valued member.

Bill I VERY much respect your support for free speech and the underdog. I've
fairly often noticed it in you, and, as I said, I respect you for it.

Hmm, what would be your definition of a troll then? Because he closely fits
mine. His posts in the subject of airing wine have been, not to put too fine
a point on it, complete nonsense. Like any other troll, instead of being
prepared to discuss, or to justify, he has made a series of statements which
are at odds with the facts.

So are most Trolls

How can this be, Bill? We ALL know that wines improve with some exposure to
air, every winemaker in the WORLD knows it. Yet Mr Scarpitti persists in his
dogmatic nonsense, and backs it up with further dogmatic nonsense.

A noble sentiment ;-))). If he's not a troll then he might, but frankly I
doubt it. You say we've chased away too many good people from here. There
are some good people who never or rarely post any more, Marcel, the
Stratmeyers, Tom Reddick. I hope they wouldn't say they've been chased away.

There have also been people who have been generally lambasted, but usually
because they've talked nonsense. They may be loving husbands or wives, good
to their aging parents, and generally very nice people, but in general their
contribution to the NG has been aggressive, divisive and destructive.

In any case I'm not doing any chasing anywhere. After reading two days of
his contributions, he joined my killfile. Life's too short to argue with
him.

I can only recall only one other instance in the past couple of years
where "far too many people in this group" *jumped* on someone who was
expressing a contrary opinion (at least about wine; OT matters such as
politics are a different matter). There may have been others but Mr.
Vega is the one I remember. Virtually every regular poster here,
comprising a group whose opinions I have come to greatly respect
(although I don't always agree with them), has told Mr. Scarpitti that
he is wrong. When the evidence is irrefutable, he either ignores the
posting, changes his argument to fit the evidence, or misrepresents
what the poster has said.

And with all due respect, how do you know that what he is saying is
based on his own experience? As for Google, I found the quote that was
in my OP after about five minutes of looking at perhaps a dozen
postings. In no way was I inclined to go through the approximately
12,500 (that is not a typo) postings that he has made to various
groups.

I don't really care if he sticks around. I've killfiled him. I am not
as optimistic as you are about his becoming an educated and valued
member here.
