From recent meals:
2006 Joseph Drouhin Vero Bourgogne Rouge nose: bright, cherryish fruit, floral palate: light body, good acidity, cherries, flowers Not a profound Pinot Noir by any stretch, but a very decent ready-to-drink example. Its $27 price tag at a local restaurant was very reasonale. 2007 Schloss Gobelsburg "Gobelsburger" Riesling nose: citrus, hints of peach and minerals palate: crisp, light, citrusy, simple Not the most interest Gobelsburger I've had, this one seemed a bit simple and a bit shy on fruit. It seemed to promise more in the nose than it delivered on the palate. Mark Lipton -- alt.food.wine FAQ: http://winefaq.cwdjr.net |

Given the fact that this is the most basic riesling bottling of Schloss Gobelsburg *and* the fact that 2007 was not a good year in general*) for riesling in Austria, the result has been predictable. *) I am not talking about top level bottlings where severe selection brought great wines, but about the vintage on average. The Vero isn't ever profound, but I wish a restaurant around here would carry for $27! |
