I forgot that during one lunch we opened a 2003 Pegau CNP Cuvee
Reservee and a 2003 Pagau CNP Cuvee Da Capo. The Reservee was a delightful mix of old and new style CNP. Plenty of fresh, ripe concentrated fruit but well balanced with red berries, black pepper, a bit of smoky bacon and a bit of red meat. Nice linear tannins, not too soft but far from being aggressive. A atouch of sage and green herb on the finish. The Cuvee Da Capo was a first for me. It was HUGE. Very Port-like in weight and flavor. Extremely concentrated blackberry, blueberry, coffee, anise, cassis and vanilla. Quite thick and a bit hot (the label showed it to be 16.5 ABV. I would like to taste it again in 10 years. We also had two mags of Stag's Leap Cask 23 from 1983 and 1985. The '93 was DOA and was basically just tart acidic water. The 1985 was dark and inky. Plenty of cassis and vanilla with a bit of mature notes of leather and cedar. Quite good and years left. |
