Hi John,

The best place by all accounts is Den Dyver, where I believe all dishes are
made with beer, although how this relates to dessert I can't say.
Unfortunately
we were unable to get in, which shows that even very early in the season it
pays to book ahead in Bruges. Anyway everyone we asked really liked this
place, there is a nice looking terrace also.

At all costs avoid De Vlaamsche Pot. The room was hot, the service slow
(but nice enough, and they talked me out of trying Belgian wine), most of
the food unremarkable to really, really bad. Notably the eel in sauce I
ordered,
frozen eel (and completely tasteless) smothered in some kind of green slush.

We ate at a pretty good Bistro called Souffleur, across from the
theatre. A bit
more than basic, I had a good piece of beef and Adele had some asparagus
with shirred eggs that was excellent. Good lunch spot or informal
dinner; they
also didn't fuss about the dog which was nice. (Belgians are less
relaxed about
dogs than the French, apparently).

Decent salad at a place called Pastis, I'd go there for lunch.

HTH,

-E
