Default AFW haiku contest

Following the occasional success of the AFW limerick contest, I thought
I'd try and launch a haiku version. If you can't drink a bottle and then write
one of these you're no Hemingway. Usual 5-7-5, winner is by popular acclaim and
gets to claim his or her prize of a cold pizza and bottle of 2 buck chuck (or
local equivalent) paid for out of their own sad (and no doubt rapidly emptying
if they spend time on such trivia) pocket.

My very humble entry:

Carmine glass beckons
In swift autumn grapes ripen
Drink up? No, it's corked.

If you can't beat that you can't write your way out of a paper bag. Or
a ham sandwich. Or whatever.

Any takers?

Been long time since I did haiku, and I always sucked at it. Supposed
to be a seasonal theme like yours, right? One for each season, but I
think so far pizza and 2BC are in your future

lilacs from dead ground
sweet briney oysters on plate
give me Muscadet

heat and sun bear down
Rosé from Provence my dear
summer is good-ah!

beef braising in wine
Barolo is food of gods
truffles are in now

logs on fire sweet smoke
Cote Rotie is singing sweet
blanket on the lap

It's not necessarily about wine but a rather feminist young lady
from Japan who worked for me came up with:

Cherry Blossom Festival

The men
Sit under the cherry trees
And get drunk.

Temperatures falling
Hearty food on the menu
Uncork those red wines!

Just been doing the 'sensory input' part of my behav neuro class, which
probably explains..

Olfaction first, then
Gustation and mouth feel sing.
A rich Zinfandel.

Deep purple, bold nose
and cherries - plus, there, raisins.
Falll light on the deck.

No, I think this is not going to help fund the lab.

Waah, good one Dan!

My Dad used to keep big jugs of Carlo Rossi in the fridge, which he would
decant into better (and already emptied) bottles; he actually served this
to guests many times. They usually glanced at the expensive labels and
complimented the wine!

He'll probably sue me for public libel for letting the story out, the wastrel!

my first post:

undergraduate
more intersted in wine
than boring school work

evening alone
time to open a bottle
no longer alone

A young spanish red
bold and fruity character
perfect for college

empty bottle sits
a most unbecoming sight
time to open more

mush to learn, much less to offer

Nice one, Tom! Welcome to AFW. Now all you have to do is find another
undergraduate to share the next bottle with.

I remember in my uni days we had a weekly dinner with the boys (and
too occasionally girls) where a different few of us each week
got in the wine. Had lots of fun, learned a lot, and of course
that way I got to eat once per week.
