Default Nice Shu Surprise

On my last trip to SF Chinatown I bought a cheap shrinkwrap bing at a
corner market I thought contained a CNNP wrapper. The wrapper was
folded on the edges so I couldnt tell. I opened it last night and the
edges said Yunnan XiShuangBanNa MengHai Xian NanNuo Shan. I should
have paid more attention to the wrapper because NanNuo is in large
Seal Script circled by smaller NanNuo Shan characters instead of the
China character. It is a very mellow shu with larger leaves than the
chopsuey CNNP. I would have stocked up at the price. This was the
first shu I bought in retail that wasnt CNNP.

Jim

PS I can imagine some sheng eventually tasting like this but never
looking like it.

Jim, what do you mean by "never looking like it"?
It sounds like the leaves of your new Shu cake
are in good condition. I've had lots of Sheng cakes
with leaves in fine condition. Or did I perhaps just
miss your point? Congratulations on your find,
by the way.

Hey Michael,

My mind kept playing tricks on me till the day I took off the
shrinkwrap and looked at the wrapper. It doesnt look anything like a
CNNP wrapper. This beeng was sitting out in plain sight and I must
have glanced at it daily. I ran out of one Shu and thought what the
heck Ill give the CNNP a try. Im seriously thinking of making a
special trip to SF to get more. It was from a corner convenience
store in Chinatown. Im thinking from Grant/Washington it is just a
couple of streets up the hill on Washington. Its a strange behaving
cake. Very soft on the edges so I can remove the leaves intact. Im
sure the middle will flake apart. How can you walk away and only
occasionally post? Sometimes I wished I could. I would need an
intervention.

Jim

PS I can see Google reduced your Moniker to an email address also. I
almost dont feel like a Space Cowboy anymore.
