Default when did salmon and tuna become common in Japan

Salmon is an imported fish isn't it? And tuna not easily available
until long-distance fishing fleets started up- so how "traditional" are
salmon and tuna in sashimi and sushi?

Both of your assumptions are incorrect.
Salmon is a domestic fish caught in Northern Japan both Honshu and Hokkaido.
But because it was caught far north, plus the risk of parasites, salmon has
never been
a traditional sushi neta.
Tuna are caugt domestically in Japan even within sight of the shoreline. The
hand-line fishing
of giant Bluefin Tuna by one man boats from the town of O-ma in Aomori
Prefecture is
well known. Tuna became a standard nigirizushi item in the 1800s in Edo (now
Tokyo) but
originally it was not a high-class or expensive fish.
