Sushi (alt.food.sushi) For talking sushi. (Sashimi, wasabi, miso soup, and other elements of the sushi experience are valid topics.) Sushi is a broad topic; discussions range from preparation to methods of eating to favorite kinds to good restaurants. |

We went over to Studio City tonight to an unnamed well-reviewed sushi
restaurant -- let's call it "Cutlet House" -- and besides being ferociously noisy (staff and diners), the emphasis was on cutesy prepared dishes. People sitting at the bar were having bento dinners and lots of cooked specials. We were the only ones ordering piece by piece as the spirit moved us. And, of the special fish I asked for, they didn't serve any - suzuki (!?), pompano/butterfish, mentaiko, kohada, inada, etc. So short of handing my wallet to Nozawa, is there a place in Studio City that caters to traditionalist sushi-lovers, not to the young, beautiful and clueless? Sorry for the rant. At least they miscounted the cold sakes we had, so it was something of a bargain.... |
