There was a pretty good piece on "60 Minutes" last night about some of what
is happening to the Blue Fin Tuna, especially in the Mediterranean where a
large portion of the Atlantic fish go to spawn. One could successfully argue
that appetites drive the demise of this fish stock - the real question is
whether it's the appetite of taste or avarice that is at fault. Fleets of
million dollar ships using spotter planes (illegal) to round up schools of
tuna and there are several hundreds of these ships in the Mediterranean.

It seems that George Carlin may have had it right after all - the only thing
that will save the earth is the extinction of man. More on the 11 o'clock news.

Stephen Hawking thinks it likely that humans will render themselves
extinct this century. I'm inclined to agree.
