Chinese Homestyle Gravy

Amount Measure Ingredient -- Preparation Method
-------- ------------ --------------------------------
1 cup soy sauce
1 can chicken broth
1/2 cup sugar
1/2 cup hoisin
3 Tbsp sherry or sake
1 cup water
1/8 tsp white pepper
1 tsp minced fresh ginger
3 chopped green onions
3 Tbsp corn starch -- mixed with 1/3 cup cold water
1/2 tsp ajinomoto (optional)

Combine ingredients in a saucepan and thicken with cornstarch slurry. Use
for noodles or eggs fu yung.

Description: "A rich, sweet, tangy, dark brown gravy or sauce."
