Subject: Sourdough I want to make sourdough bread in a bread machine. I need complete directions including how to get a starter since I don.t have one. Thanks. Sour dough starter for 2 servings: 1 cup milk 1 cup flour Put a cup of milk in a glass container, let it sit in a warm place for 24 hours uncovered. It should look kind of like sour cream. Stir in a cup of flour and let is sit in the warm place for several days. It should start to bubble and emit the characteristic sour dough smell. If it doesn't do anything after 5 or 6 days, start over. When ever you use it feed it with 1 cup of flour and one cup milk. If you don't use it for 3 or 4 weeks dump out half and replenish with 1 cup flour and milk. Always use the same kind of flour. If it starts to get too sour, alternate feedings with water instead of milk. It keeps in the fridge virtually forever. Just bring it to room temp befor using. -- Rec.food.recipes is moderated by Patricia D. Hill at . Only recipes and recipe requests are accepted for posting.
