This probably isn't quite what you had, but they're really good.
Candied Walnuts (or Pecans) 1 cup walnuts (or pecans, which I prefer) 1/4 cup brandy (or dark rum, which I prefer) 1/4 cup maple syrup 2 Tbsp butter, plus more for greasing 1/4 tsp salt Soak nuts in liquor for an hour or so. Lightly grease a platter or baking sheet. Melt the butter and add the nuts & liquor, and the maple syrup. Simmer, stirring constantly, until the liquid has almost entirely boiled away--the nuts will be sticky but no liquid will be visible. Turn out onto the greased surface & spread thin. Sprinkle with salt while still warm. When cool, store in an airtight container. Derived from The Common Ground Dessert Cookbook -- Rec.food.recipes is moderated by Patricia Hill at . Only recipes and recipe requests are accepted for posting. Please allow several days for your submission to appear. Archives: http://www.cdkitchen.com/rfr/ http://recipes.alastra.com/ |
