Default freezing onions

Hi everyone - This is my first time posting anywhere so I hope I do it
correctly. Now my question - Do I have to blanch onions to freeze them or
can I just chop them up, put them in containers and freeze. Anyone or
everyone please let me know. Thanks Ras
