Ice cream teeth
Damn, I do love ice cream. But, in the last several years I've
noticed a rather annoying phenomena when I eat ice cream, at least the kind with nuts and other chewy bits (I love rocky road). My teeth ache after eating ice cream. Even stranger, they don't hurt till a couple hours after I've consumed the ice cream. This last time is the worst. I woke up this morning and I *still* have a barely noticeable ache in my teeth. Anyone have this experience? Anyone with a SO or friend who's a dentist they could ask? I'll pull the damn things before I give up my ice cream. nb |

What happens when you eat nuts and other chewy things by themselves (not in ice cream)? Does eating plain softserve make your teeth hurt? The fact that the onset of pain is delayed and then it persists for so long makes it worth mentioning to your own dentist. Maybe the pain actually begins while you're eating but it's masked by the high levels of Rocky Road-induced endorphins. Kathleen |

I used to love Warheads and other sour stuff, but now if I eat it, about six of my teeth will drive me crazy for about three days when I brush. Then it fades away. Maybe there's some common ingredient in your Rocky Road and my candy that makes teeth hypersensitive. |

Don't expect miracles, it takes a while for the effect to build up, but it does work. |

I was a'fearin' I was going to require a root canal, as my toofs were aching and throbbing after consuming coldish/hot foods. I'm pretty much at my dental insurance co-pay limit for the year, and I don't relish the idea of an RC, so I purchased a tube of Sensodyne. A week later, no pain from hot/cold foods. Sure beats a root canal and ensuing costs! TammyM |

A week later, no pain from hot/cold foods. > Yech,,... gotta hate the root canal. The procedure can be bad enough but then the tooth gets brittle and snaps off and it costs a fortune for a crown. I had to go to a specialist for root a canal job on a molar. It was extremely uncomfortable. I was laid back on the chair with a dental dam in my mouth, choking and suffocating for more than 45 minutes when the guy spots a crack in the tooth and says it is not worth finishing, says it is going to have to be pulled. He doesn't pull teeth. I had to go to a dental surgeon. Two years later I need another major root canal. This time I express concerns about the discomfort and choking and gagging. No problem. Come in 45 minutes early and get sedated. It sounded like it was worth a try. I went in early. They sat me down in the chair, gave me a little pill to swallow and some magazines to read. I read for a while, looked at pictures for a while,, flipped pages idly for a while, then the assistant came in and picked the magazine up off the floor ad asked if I was ok. The endondits came in and asked how I was doing. Somewhere along the line I felt something and thought to myself that it was pain, but didn't really care. Then she said she was almost done and a few minutes later they poured me out of the seat and helped me to the car so my wife could drive me home. She had worked on me for over 2 hours. Sedation is the way to go. Best money I ever spent. |

I don't remember the name but it was hard to find. It was not in any of the grocery stores or chain drug stores. I found it at a local independent drug store. It was close to $12 for a very small tube of it, smaller than one of those little travel tubes. |

Last time I saw an anethetist's bill, it was $450 for 20 mins and that was 25 yrs ago. Maybe some states are different. Just gas and novacaine are expensive enough, these days, adding anywhere from $50-150 to the bill. nb |

If the aching doesn't occur until a couple of hours afterwards then it's not the typical cold/sweet sensitivity issue... Sensadyne toothpaste and its ilk won't help you. You need to visit a dentist... the fact that you asked others to ask a dentist for you tells me you haven't been to a dentist in many years, maybe never, UK hillybilly mouth. Your teeth are simply rotten... probably takes hours for the sugar to ooze through to the nerves of your rotten porous/cracked teeth... probably have a severe case of periodontal disease as well. Do you even own a toothbrush, probably not. notbob's dental imagery: http://www.terragalleria.com/parks/n....maca5400.html Sheldon DDS |
