Default Glutenus maximus therapy

Get your minds out of the gutter. Making a good loaf of bread is
therapy for me. (Eating some is a close second.) Given all of the
stuff that's gone on in the last few weeks, I need all the therapy I can
get. Tuesday our neighbor's grandson (age 2) was diagnosed with type 1
diabetes. Friday the local Jewish Federation office was shot up. One
of my cronies is director of marketing there, and is now in serious
condition. Yesterday I heard that another crony was hurt in a head on
auto accident. Luckily for her, she only sustained a broken kneecap.
So it's pain de campagne for my neighbor, the accident victim, and us.
Once the shooting victim is home and on the mend, there'll be some
glutenus maximus therapy for her as well.

I hope things around you start settling down, or you're going to have
to open your own bakery! My best wishes to all who are suffering.

Hang in there,
Carol

Cindy, you live in Seattle? I read about a shootout in a synagogue
office there (or something to that effect). Is this what you are
referring to? Quite disturbing news. I'm sorry for your pain.

My father-in-law has diabetes. His health isn't great, but he's in his
late seventies, and these days they are improving quality of life for
people with these conditions. There *IS* hope in the sadness. May Hashem
help and heal us all!

Yes, I live in Seattle. The general impression of many folks is that
Seattle is a tolerant place where everyone holds hands and sings
Kumbayah. However, Seattle is also an attractive place for people who
are loners and misfits. Most of these folks are productive members of
society (a few of them are Microsoft millionaires), but there are a few
who can wreak havoc. The guy who shot up an after-rave party back in
March was one example. The guy who shot up the Jewish Federation
offices on Friday is another.

The little one got excellent care, so I feel comfortable that his
diabetes will get managed well. It will take the family some getting
used to, but all will survive and thrive.

OB food: SO grilled steaks and microwaved potatoes tonight. We also
had steamed purple and yellow wax beans. Tomorrow I'll probably do a
Thai pork curry, so I can top off the basil plants.
