Has anyone tried the new shallot salt from Penzeys? If so what do you
think about it?

Haven't. But I did just buy both shallots and salt
at Penzey's last week.

Hm, I'm always looking to play with dried stuff for extra flavoring on
poultry etc. I use onion and garlic powder on it (when frying or
marinating) and I also make my own Shitake powder.

I can get shallots really cheap at the oriental market, and I have a
dehydrator. :-)

I'm going to have to try making some shallot powder..... It sounds
awesome!

Chop up a small shallot and toss it into the pot next time
you make rice. Works with onions as well, but shallots
of course give a lot smoother flavor in the result.

Sorry, Amsterdam. The store is run by people from the Middle East. i don't
know them well enough yet to ask where they originate from. But someday I
will. Cos I don't think they're Turkish or Morroccan, which are the largest
Middle Eastern groups in The Netherlands.

Anyway, if you can find a Middle Eastern store in Austin, maybe they'll have
dried shallots.
