Default Freezer found!!

Thanks to those that helped!

I found the freezer I wanted at a local store at a good price (21
cf @ $ 388). Manual with the zinc shelves... Hmmm, wonder if I
could fabricate those 2nd barrier doors that I haven't seen in
ages (like the ones they still have in Europe)?

But guess what? Saturday night, after returning home from a mini
pleasure trip to Chicago, we decided to go out to dinner. After
dinner we found ourselves with just enough time to run to Sears
to pick up another bucket of Laundry soap... longer story
shortened, we saw my same freezer on "Sale" for $ 399.99 ...! I
mentioned the salesman that on Sunday, I was going to Sherman's
to buy the exact same freezer for $ 388... Well, what do you
know, if I bought the freezer at Sears THAT night with my Sears
charge they would deduct another 10 % off of the sales price
which would be even better than 'matching' the Sherman's price...
Woo-Hoo! The freezer I wanted ended up only costing $ 359!!
AND... 6 months no payments and no interest! Yayyyyyyyyyyy!!!

Saturday was a great day!

21 cu. ft for $359??? Oh, I hate you. <g> Our chest
freezer is 7 cu. ft, which looked huge to us when we first bought it,
but is now crammed full of goodies. It's been great having the extra
space, I don't know how we got along without it!

And now with the money you saved, you can start on the really
fun part--filling your new freezer.

Yep. Can't wait to fill it! Of course, one of the neat things
is that I'll be able to empty out my 13 cf Chest and be able to
reorganize everything! Woo-hoo! My current thoughts are to keep
meats in the 13 and my vegetables, butter, and all of the 1000s
of little things that used to get buried in the chest... into the
upright. Wow. I can hardly wait.

Even though it's s'posed to be at the store today, we're planning
on picking it up this weekend (Rick works nights...). Of course,
if he'd be willing to pick it during the week... I could reorg.
the freezers later this week and do a little power shopping this
weekend. Hmmmm... note to self: send hubby subliminal messages
while he sleeps tomorrow... LOL

Sams* has 1# blocks of butter @ $ 1.20 and I think the 6 #
bags/blocks may work out even less... Kroger's had either
roasts or tenderloins at buy-1-get-1-free. That may merit a
consideration. Oh, and now I can call up Farmer Dave and check
his prices on bison... Yum! Gosh and with Deer season around
the bend - Yay!!

Ariane, as much as you and Erik travel... I'm surprised you only
have the 7 cf. For 10 % of the booty - I'll rent you out some
space in my new freezer! LOL

WOW! Who knew you were so endowed. (smile)

I guess I equate the side by side refrigerater with the upright
freezer. You can find your stuff, it's on shelves.

Sounds like a great plan. We've got a basket in the chest
freezer for small items, and I use plastic grocery bags to try and
keep the rest organized. (Note the operative word here is "try"!) We
buy in bulk when meat goes on sale, repackage it into 1 lb. bags
usually and toss it all into the freezer. Not having to dig to the
bottom for a package of pepperoni certainly saves me from frostbite. ;D

Excellent price on butter. I haven't bought any from Costco
yet, but the prices are good there too, IIRC. A couple times a year
when Land O'Lakes goes on sale, I usually stock up at least 4 lbs. at
a time. Some local farmers around here will also sell you half a cow,
half a pig, etc. We haven't seriously considered that yet, though...

LOL... How much for an extra 10 cf?? Believe it or
not, we were going to get the smaller 5 cf, but Hag recommended we get
the 7 cf size _minimum_. That's really about all we could fit in the
garage space we had, unless we got an upright. She was absolutely
right, 7 c is an excellent size for just the two of us. Okay, so
maybe we could do with bigger, but then I suppose there's greater risk
of freezer burn since we wouldn't work through the stock so quickly.
At least, this is what I tell myself so I don't run out and buy a
monster chest freezer. <g>

If you don't already have one, use the money you saved and buy a Tilia
Foodsaver.

Yeah, I know. I was going to pay for it right then... but hey,
why shouldn't I make a little interest on it - for a change!

I swear if my Tilia breaks in the middle of a big larding
session, I'll finish the job with a drinking straw and
the door of my toaster-oven.

Isn't it great when you find a good deal on something you need? We just
bought a new mobile home, demo model, that came with a tiny 14 cf
fridge. No way would that be enough for our family and I don't want to
live again without ice & water in the door, so I read the Lowe's ad and
found a 25 cf side-by-side with everything, on sale for $929. That
sounded like a good deal, and when I got there, my local Lowe's had it
on sale for $847! PLUS they had a five-day special of "no interest or
payments for a year" so we got a Lowe's card and charged it on that.
I've had to postpone delivery a couple of times because I took advantage
of that no-interest-for-a-year deal even though the mobile home wasn't
delivered yet much less set up, but I'm sure glad I did!

Hopefully you plan on paying it off *before* the interest kicks in, or
your 'deal' turns out to be not such a good one.
