A former church pastor who pleaded guilty to cheating his congregation
out of thousands of dollars wants to recover a number of electronic
devices and tools seized during the investigation.
Danny R. Thomas, former pastor of the nondenominational Son Rise
Church, in Unity Township, filed a petition in Westmoreland County
court on Tuesday asking for a judge to order the Clerk of Courts
Office to give back two cameras, various computer equipment --
including a desktop and a notebook -- and some tools, including a
table saw and a router.

The petition states that none of the items were used in the commission
of a crime but remain part of the evidence in Thomas' case. An Oct. 15
court order states that the property should be returned as part of a
plea bargain.

Thomas was sentenced to three years' probation and 200 hours of
community service and was ordered to pay restitution after pleading
guilty to theft and bad check charges in October.

State police at Greensburg said Thomas was taking out and defaulting
on loans under the church's name in 2003 and 2004 while he was pastor
there.

Police say he used the funding to obtain a 2000 Lincoln Navigator and
2004 Honda Pilot. He also was accused of defaulting on an agreement
with the church to borrow $26,000 for a down payment on his residence.
