Once, when I was single and living by myslef. I got laughed at by the
grocery stiore clerk for buying 1 potato. "A single potato? never seen anybody buy that before. What's a person gonna do with one single potato? Damn, hahahahahahaha....!" Well gee, I was gonna take it home and bake it and put butter and sour cream and chives and cheese into it. I thought it was a good, easy, frugal, college-kid dinner. But it sure made me feel silly! Nowadays, nobody laughs at me when I buy my 3 potatoes! (I get yellowfinns in 5 lb sacks and red potatoes in 3 lb bags, but my baking(russet) potatoes i buy loose when I need em. Never can buy one without thinking of that day, though. |

I few weeks ago I made the mistake of buying three potatoes and my wife pointed out that we already had 2 left over from a few weeks before. :-) > Nowadays, nobody laughs at me when I buy my 3 potatoes! I realize that it would be a lot cheaper to buy my potatoes by the bag, but we end up having to throw half of them out. At least we learned where to start looking for the source of that horrid smell. |

I buy baking potatoes loose, too. Usually I will buy more than one; if I'm going to bake one, why not 2? Then there are stuffed potatoes from the leftovers, cooks up right quick. Also, the potatoes I buy for baking, they are Enormous. Right off the bat they are easily 2 potatoes in one. But, this week a bag of potatoes was 5 lbs, buy one get one free. Well ... 10 lbs of potatoes is a lot for me, but I'll try to use them up before they go bad, and I wasn't about to leave my free potatoes at the store, right? Since you reminded me, I'm off to boil up some eggs to make potato salad later. Thanks. nancy |
