What kind of a meat grinder are you talking about? The only two I'm
familiar with are the attachment for the Kitchenaid mixer and the old
fashioned hand cranked one that comes in various sizes. I put the parts for
both in the dishwasher.

There aren't all that many parts to a meat grinder, regardless which.
Naturally if it's electric you're not going to submerge the motor
portion. The only parts to clean are the body, the auger, the plate,
the blade, and the retaining nut (five parts). All should be washed by
hand with hot sudsy water, rinse, and dry. The plate will normally be
of hardened tool steel and should be lightly coated with cooking oil to
prevent rust. These days most grinder employ a stainless steel blade,
but if of tool steel then oil that prior to storage too. There's no
rule that the grinder can't be cleaned in a dishwasher but I don't
recommend placing carbon steel , aluminum, die cast, or tinned parts in
the dishwasher. It shouldn't take more than three minutes to clean a
grinder by hand, no one can be that lazy they need to use a dishwasher
to clean five measly parts.

If the dishwasher is already half full, there's no reason not to put those 5
parts in there too.

Yes there is... dishwashing cleanser will pit/discolor most grinder
parts... that's why my admonition that I don't recommend placing
grinder parts into the dishwasher. Hey, you asked (I didn't volunteer)
so I'm politely answering... you obviously don't like my answer
because you obviously already had your mind made up... you are being
obnoxious and rude. **** YOU! Don't ask me anymore.

Of course you asked. See that superfluous comma you inserted, makes it
a question, snidewise but a question nevertheless (in fact it asks
permission). And by transporting my name as you did you directed your
question directly to me alone, not to mention the small fact that you
responded directly to my post, even reiterated "those 5 parts" that
only I illustrated. And you're the one who is upset... you posted the
same thing twice... must be very important to you... your relationship
with your dishwasher is evidently quite intimate... fuzzy, warm, and
vibrates.

Do you think someone should tell him that Dog3 asked the question, or
would that be cheating?

I have to agree with Sheldon on this one. Dishwasher instructions usually
advice against putting their use for aluminium. I used to have a nice polished
aluminium ice cream scoop until someone insisted on sticking it into the
dishwasher. Now it is badly pitted.
